Default dist mech adv bushings?

anybody know about how much one of those advance bushing limit mechanical advance. the ones that come in the moroso kits (bronze).

i limited my advance too much (by brazing the slot), now i need 7degs more.

wondering if that bushing would be about 7degs (crank)???

or i can just open up the slot more... figured removing the bushing would be easier.

thks

I have the artical right in front of me. Sounds like if you have a caliper you could go by the measurement of .0125 for every 2 deg at the crank. So about an additional .045 inch would about do it. (hope i did the math right) A round file and couple minutes of work.

You can also file a flat on the bushing where it contacts the side of the slot. If you go a little too far, you can take a pair of pliers and rotate the bushing a little to get back to more material. The bushing has to be a fairly snug fit on the pin for this to work.

The Moroso bushing will allow up to 29 degrees of mech advance in a stock advance slot.

Seeing you only need 7 more degrees I would file like other postes mentioned.

Center cam and weights used are also a player here. When the weights move out the advance curve will stop when the inner flats line up. Light spring may allow the advance curve to continue at high rpm's, as the weights will roll out on the tips some. This is why we weld the slot so maximum advance is achieved and a positive stop for the advance curve is also established......Cliff

good point Cliff.
i'll check all that too when i pull it out.
all i know right know is that i am all in by 2000rpm and about 7degs short.
i didn't take it above 3000rpm when i checked last. it spooks me a bit running beyond that, standing in front of bumper.

found where my 7degs went.
the total slot length is about what I wanted.
problem is the pin starts in about the middle of the slot. the weights and center plate don't allow full use of slot.

i can file another .043" off the stop side of slot to get my additional 7degs.

does it matter that the pin/bushing start in the middle of slot?

Well sure you can, and that's what you should do.

Sneak up on it and file the stop end .042 longer.

Should find that's where you need to be.

That's .006 for each distributor degree which equates to 2 crank degrees.

Hold on now.

File the slot .006 for each added dist degree you want. That equals 2 crank degrees.

So if you need 7 extra crank degrees then figure .021 to start then check it.

Clear???
