Broken Valve Spring
I found a broken valve spring on my car. It is a dual spring with damper. The heads are wide port E-heads, the cam is a .700 lift solid roller.
I took the broken spring (and a good spring) to a local shop, but they couldn't identify the spring by looking at it. But if I had a part number they could match it up. Anyone have an idea of a part number for a spring that may work? |

Which spring broke, one of the Round wire inner springs?
And where did it snap, close to its middle, or near the very top in its last coil? If it was a inner spring and it busted at its top then you need to Mic all the retainers at the step that loads in to the spring. The retainers should just drop on, if they need to be forced to load into the spring(s) then that is what snapped the inner spring at its top. If you do not want to replace all the retainers along with the springs then your going to need to Mic them so you can match a spring to them. I would look into a Manley Nextec spring and do away with running a spring that uses a flat wire damper! These have been known to unwind out thru the springs with the end result of snapping a valve in two! Also do any of your springs show signs of what's going on in this photo, as that condition can break Spings , bend push Rods and take roller lifters.

The outer spring broke in 2 places, the 3 pieces are equal length.
The engine was built in 2012 and has countless passes on it. It will be getting rebuilt very, very soon. I have an out of town race this weekend that I really do not want to miss. So I need to get the spring today. Isky is about 100 miles from me, looks like I'll be taking the spring to them to match up.I don't care if it's the exact same spring, as long as it will work. |

Prior to the rebuild would be a good time to remove the springs and test them with a bench tester at their verified installed height and with the retainers used to see how much pressure they have lost while in use.
We check new valve springs at their intended installed height with a Rimac machine before they are installed. NEVER trust the catalog specs ! .

Your one of the lucky few who did not kiss a valve when this happened!

Isky had the spring. They didn't have a full set, so they gave me the spring.
