I am thinking any hood tachs on Formula's were an easy out later addition for a non gauge Formula. When I was Formula looking a few years ago, it was surprising on the lower option F400 cars how many didn't have gauges. even some HO cars came without gauges which is surprising. I don't prefer hood tachs as they have an add on look, and are kind of a wart on the smooth lines.

For base flat metal hoods....
what I've always wanted was a hood tach on base 350 '70 Bird <sarcasm>

seen gauges, or gauge, mounted inside shaker. Yep, looked terrible. Probably only readable as they had probably bolted shaker to hood.

BTW only difference in 70 between a 6cyl and an 8 cyl hood tach is one capacitor. AFAIR the 8 has an 33, 6 a 47, and 4 a 68
I like a HUD, have a digital GPS speedo in the left lower corner of the windscreen in all of my cars. On my B/P vette had both a hood tach (Dixco) and an oil pressure guage (too many Jags in my yout) on the cowl. |

1971 Formula Hood Tach
So a few years back I purchased a numbers matching 71 455 HO Formula that I found in a old garage in Tamaqua Pa. This Formula seems to be a pretty special car....its a 24 option Ram Air car.....Rosewood with Ivory interior.
The car was ordered with Rally Gauges and Clock. It has the hood tach that most think was installed by the dealer. I like the look of the full size clock with the hood tach. Todd |
