So still waiting on the relay tomorrow so I can get the voltage the way msd wants it. So I've got the 18 degree bushing in it and the 2 blue springs. Idles at 750....timing mark doesn't start to move til 1300 rpms and totals out at 2500. I'm surprised the timing doesn't start advancing til 1300 or is that normal? I'm probably going to experiment with a heavy spring and a light silver for an expected 2800 total.
Pretty sure the dui dist I was using had lighter springs but totaled at 2600. I believe the paperwork on the dui said 22 degrees mechanical

So still waiting on the relay tomorrow so I can get the voltage the way msd wants it. I haven't driven it since,, I'm not going to try it til the relay is in.So I've got the 18 degree bushing in it and the 2 blue springs. Idles at 750....timing mark doesn't start to move til 1300 rpms and totals out at 2500. I'm surprised the timing doesn't start advancing til 1300 or is that normal? I'm probably going to experiment with a heavy spring and a light silver for an expected 2800 total.

Rereading the paperwork that came with the dui...I've never had the correct voltage to the dist. I always thought I had full voltage til I checked it the other day to find out I only had 12.6 volts engine running to the coil/ dist instead of the 14+ volts they say they want. Maybe that's why it was acting funny and burnt the insulation on the yellow wire? ( that's a different thread I've got)

Pic of yellow wires on dui small body I removed.

Scott you can use the 12v positive that runs the wiper motor to run your ignition. I’ve done this on many cars for years. I’m thinking of trashing my msd pro billet, it’s a corrosion magnet! I’ve been looking at the DUI distributors. I’m thinking small bodied for my tripower. Anyone here like DUI?

Default minus a cylinder

I wouldn't. I ran my 350 well over 40,000 miles with zero compression in the #8 cylinder.... Idled like crap but just wouldn't quit!

Default MSD Voltage

Have had a DUI for 12 years/40,000 miles. No problems. Frinally put new cap and rotor on last year when also replaced plugs and wires. Mine is full size though, not small body.

You'ed be surprised how running a motor long term at low rpm's , or short term but at high rpm with one cylinder fully dead can damage the main bearings , especially with a steel Crank!

Hard on the torsional damper, too.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. In my case it was a '72 350 with crappy 7h1 heads, so not worth the trouble or money to repair. I just got a 400 core and started a build with new rotating assy and sd 6x4 ported heads and drove it as is. Once we do the autopsy I'll post a thread on it.

Scoot70...what's the black wire next to the yellow wire that has burn spots? If that's a plug wire, you may be arcing between the two. Insulation that gets hot from too much current normally would be a continuous length of burn/discolor unless the wire is broken internally or possible arcing to a high voltage source at a contact point.

IMHO.

They both go to the pickup coil.
