Noxon metal polish works well (oxalic based). For heavier oxidation you can couple that with fine bronze wool. YouTube has videos of that combo specifically.
If there’s a ton of rust I usually spray with WD40 first to blast off the bulk oxidation so you’re not grinding it into the chrome with the bronze/noxon.
A final polish with Semichrome will usually take it that extra mile and also protect very well.

Everybody that does it often has their own routine… lol. That one is just my old standby.

0000 steel wool will clean up chrome and glass without scratching. Once you've cleaned the chrome, put a good coat of wax on it.

I've also just used 0000 steel wool with good results.

0000 steel wool works but as mentioned some kind of protection is still needed.

Best I've found for a remover and protectant on pitted older chrome is Quik-Glo.

Edit - There are three formulas, https://quick-glo.com/?v=76cb0a18730b
