Default replace throw out bearing and input shaft bearing

Guys,I talkedto Keith and Ken Freeman.I need to change the input shaft bearing in my 63 3 speed tempest. While there I will change the throwout and pilot bearing. As I see it I need to pull the engine or what looks to me the easier route is to pull the TQ tube.I have the rope disc now.I got all 4 bolts out of the input bearing but looked like there was not room to get it out of the bellhousing into the TQ tube and THEN get it past the rope shaft. As I see it I need to pull the front sway bar, pull the front TQ tube bolts.Support the engine and then pull the rear TQ tube bolts and drop the front of the TQ tube and remove it.I know I need to address the emerg cable, speedo cable and shifter handle and rod.All of this I can do under the car pretty much on my own.To pull the engine is just way harder in my eyes.Opinions from someone that has actually changed a throw out bearing?Tom

I've been there a couple of times. I have always left the engine in place and used the method you described. Still no picnic.Good luck and watch for other parts that could use replacing while you are in there.

I got it done.Way easy to put back together than apart.I guess if you REALLY read the directions it does make a diff.I did NOT put a 2in block of wood between the tran and the car floor taking it apart,I did have it there going back in.I did put a tapered block of 2 by 4 between the pan and the X member when I took it apart and had a 2 by 6 on a floor jack under the bell to get the TQ tube back up past the input flange. With my sons help we got the TQ tube back in and bolted up to the bell in maybe 20 min.I did all the rest my self in a hour or two.Now that I have done it I still hope I never do one again.Tom
