Where on the rear housing is the code for what type of rear it is on a 74 GTO?Someone whats to sell me one, but I what to check it out first.Are they the same for nova's?

The rear was a 8.5" 10 bolt. It was shared by the Nova as well as all the X-body cars. The Nova offered the 12 bolt also in earlier years! I have a 10 bolt that might be going up for sale with 4.10 gears and posi, I am looking to upgrade to a 9" rear!

I know it's a 10 bolt possi and it's a GM rear.I was told it's from a 74 GTO,but I just want to cofirm it.IS THERE A CODE ON THE REAR TELLING ME IT'S FROM A 74 GTO AND WHAT GEARS ARE IN IT? ALSO WHERE WOULD I FIND THE CODE ON THE REAR?

This should help, Bob. From the GTO Little Red Book. It appears that only 2.73 and 3.08 were available.
