I have been trying to get the shaker to work on my 74 GTO... As far as I know, all the components are there. I have plugged up the electrical connection to the underside of the shaker, but the door still doesn't work. Should there be a vacuum hose running the underside of the shaker also? It looks like there is a port there and from the inside, there is a vacuum hose attached.
Please advise. |

Ken,
you must hook up that vacumn hose. The scoop works like this: the vacumn keeps the scoop shut until you nail the throttle. Nailing the throttle will cause loss of vacumn, allowing electric solonoid to open scoop. Coolest thing to watch from inside the car when the scoop opens up JOHN 74 GTO 406 T400 74 Firebird 350 4-speed 68 GTO Convertible 400 T400 76 GP LJ 400 4BBL T400 78 Chevy 1/2 Ton Truck

John,
Have you got a diagram that shows the routing of the vacuum hoses? When I purchased this car, the port on the shaker did not have a hose attached to it, nor do I see where I should pull one from. Currently the shaker door is staying closed all the time. (PS I still have not picked up the other 74 yet!) Ken |

I have a multi-tap vacuum header that screws into the back of the carbuerator air horn that provides the vacuum for my brake booster, distributor advance and hood scoop. It looks like a tree with several branches for the small hoses and one large one for the booster.
