Default Made It Home To The UK

Just for those that might have thought I fell off the planet. I got the old girl back from Qatar in April last year. And I finally got it legal for the road less than a week ago. Pics from first drive to fill the tank.

Good news! I'm sure your resources for working on the T/A will be greatly improved in the UK......

You know, I was really nervous taking it for this run to the petrol station because it had sat for nearly a year at that point with just occasional startups in the garage. I was worried about water and crap in the tank from it being nearly empty all the time and filled from a 5 litre jug. I was mindful that I never let it sit that long before. But it was fine. Of course, I'm still pretty constrained because we are in lockdown here with the COVID. Essential trips only (work and back, shopping). So won't be easy to test and tune for a while. But I probably want to mostly keep it off the road in salt season..

One thing I did do when it got here was rip out the crappy electric choke that I put in when I got the car (I think I read they're better somehow). Anyway, I'd gotten a repro stock style coil choke from our sponsors and I put it on back in April last year. All of a sudden, my starting problems in cold weather were gone! Imagine that. Just have to fine tune the fast idle setting a bit.

So it's good. That's my other nervousness here. The road is a much more "organised" and "professional" place here in the UK. So no leaving the car running while filling it up like in Qatar (which was always a nice option because you didn't need to worry about hot restart). Also, not quite as relaxed for a roadside breakdown. If it's on a big fast road police will be all over you for being out of the vehicle in an "unsafe" location etc..

But no. She seems to be in good shape. Hopefully in a few months things are less crazy and more open and the roads are drier and less salty. I really want to stretch her legs a little on some real roads. Something I've been dreaming about for the past eighteen years or so. And I never would have gotten there without a bunch of help from a bunch of you!

Sam

Good to hear your back to some place where mechanics know a wrist pin from a cotter pin!

Stay very safe also, I just got over Covid the beginning of the week.

Looking great. I'd like to see some pics of her in Qatar if you have any. Some more countryside shots around your area of the UK would be great too.

I think this is my favourite. It's just before I flew back and she's sitting outside the compound I was living in with the EXPORT plate on.

Here's a nice scene from a few weeks ago when we had this sunset that went on for ages and it was white and icy out..

And of course, the TA in the snow (before it was legal so I wasn't able to go further than out the garage and back in).

So glad to have finally made it back out!

Awesome Sam, good to hear from you and glad you and the T/A made it home! Sounds like you have gotten the little annoyances out of the way so you can enjoy it now when the weather improves.

But well worth it

Very cool! I bet it's nice to be home.

I always got a kick out of the Arabic license plate in your pics.

Average fillup for me is around 45-50 litres. Let's say 50.
The V-Power 99 octane (RON) at the Shell down the road is £1.32/l
£66 or so
Currently around $90..

Sam
