I can just hear the builder bragging to his buddies ... "I was working on a 455 Poncho and the stupid block wasn't even machined for the thrust bearing. I had to take the BFH and beat the bearing in place. No wonder they all threw rods like horseshoes back in the day."

I almost did that with a 425 Olds 4 decades ago till I noticed the mains were different. With a factory manual the engine went back together correctly and ran fine - after I realised Joe Mondello sold me a cam that had 10:1 compression one side, 8:1 the other. 66 425's has 45° bank angles, the cam he sold me was 39° causing the issue. He did send another cam but the stingy bugger did not send gaskets.

We all make mistakes.

Maybe this was built by THAT pro Pontiac guy, I forget his name? Really looks like a total amateur or high on drugs build.

It'll be fine if you use SOFT face hammer.

But look at all the money he saved not doing oil and filter changes.

Well around here anybody who deals in Chevy engines is dumb as rocks. At least that's the narrative.

A true machinist/engine builder can assemble anything correctly.. doesn’t matter what the valve cover says.

Probably one six pack too many before assembly began, Preston. This crap gives all “Bubbas” a bad reputation.
