This is a Firebird, right?

I think you should check out the Pypes kits. I have no personal experience, but there are lots of positive reviews.

And there are plenty of negative reviews on the pos, I mean pypes systems. Because you would have to be retarded not to notice that the systems don't fit firebirds, it's a safe bet that there would be a lot more negative reviews. The problem is that folks don't have the balls to stand up and state their mind.

The solution would be at your local custom exhaust shop. You will get an exhaust system that actually fits the car. And you'll most likely get as good if not better performance because there is zero unbiased documentation that shows pypes outperforms custom built systems.

Some shops won't fabricate x-pipes. (You see, they are already getting their asses busted trying to stay cost effective with custom systems; after all, they make the same profit on an installed fart-can muffler on a ricer, and they have it in-and-out the door in about 20 minutes.) The solution would be to buy a house brand summit x-pipe, and the exhaust shop, most likely, would be more than glad to to graft in the x-pipe.

73, here are some shots of the PYPES crossflow system on a 73 SD car. Hope these help. They had a few more when the car was featured in Hemmings Magazine a while back.

They don't fit on a Firebird ???? I installed the Pypes crossflow system on my 76 T/A and it went right on, just had to cut some off the x-pipe because it comes extra long. I must have done something wrong because mine fit fine....

I have the PYPES 2.5" system on my 78 SE and it fit right in cut the ends off used the hangers for the splitters no problem, I guess the exhaust shop that did mine did something wrong also.

Default Pypes Exhaust

I installed the 2 1/2" Pypes X Pipe system on my 79 Trans Am and was very pleased with the finished product. It is light years above the 2 1/4" local exhaust shop job I had on there previously in terms of quality, performance and durability. I used the stainless steel band clamps over the fittings and have no leaks up to this point.

Most of the shops I asked aboy custom exhaust couldn't do mandrel bends, so the pypes system is better flowing than an exhaust from a shop the 4 shops I asked anyway. They were also more expensive or close to the same money.

RA3Formula, the system is 2.5" from front to rear. Muffler is 4.25" by 10.25" by 20" or somewhat very close to this. The inlet and outlet bushings have a 6" center-to-center dimension in and out (or close to this).

440, if they are center in center out, any of the straight through ones will be very similar assuming they keep the 3" size all the way through. Borla makes one that enlarges internally. If it is offset-offset, 18" or 20" or 22" like most GM cars use, I bet that the Xlerator is first, UltraFlo Welded and then UltraFlo, then Magnaflow, and Borla and all will be within 1-2% of each other or "within limits of detection" as we say at work.

i'm looking for a complete system including x pipe and mufflers.I want a good sounding muffler that flows as well. Not too concerned with how loud it will be but it has to be reasonable.
thanks

440, We got to test some and here you go. A little loud and not as high flowing as straight through ones. Better than chambered ones by far but still less than straight throughs. Data is: air flow compared to a pipe, sound levels from 10 feet on Dad's wagon at 750, 2200 and 3500 rpm.

ArvinMeritor Cherry Bomb Vortex + X (3.0") 4.00" x 10.00" x 14" 88% 73, 89, 98
Goerlich's Xlerator + X (3.0") A X111 4.25" x 9.25" x 14" 94% 75, 85, 95
Goerlich's Xlerator + X (3.0") A X123 4.25" x 9.25" x 18" 97% 71, 82, 92

The Pypes Race Pro was redesigned a couple years back and deserves to be put in the same company as the above mufflers.

The crossflow system several others mentioned utilizes the Pypes Race Pro muffler for a true dual flow path and maximum flow. 2.5" is perfect for your application provided the system is mandrel bent. The sound will be a medium aggressive tone cruising but will really wake up under wot. The local shops would need to use 3" and you still will get 50% less flow because they can't mandrel bend pipe.

I've said this in many posts in this forum area. Local shops will send you home with a nice fitting system in most cases, but if you want performance, It's almost always worth the little bit of extra frustration installing a 'boxed' mandrel bent system.
