With enough TQ and HP, gearing and tranny become less critical Seriously, very nice car! Not sure why 3 speed manual is kind of looked down on, old automatics have 3 gears. The urge to put a 4 speed in would ever gnaw on one though!

Wow!!
Thanks Bruce for posting this! I know the add seems to imply that the guy doesn't want to talk to anyone without money, but has anyone tried contacting him?

Rare 3 speed big black ball. Console free, gauges...wonder if those are JWs?

Gauges and tach and 3 speed seem a kind of deliberate optioning (?) maybe..... someone's preference maybe, as performance choice?

Would be interesting to see the PHS.
Doesn't look like it has PS or PB. Probably very, very low options except the Rally gages and wheels possibly? (they could be added on during restoration)

They do NOT look like the 70-72 15" wheels - and if the guy is correct about it being complete numbers matching and built to "concourse condition, investment grade" level, then I would hope that it doesn't have any incorrect parts... Quote:

It appears to have the following options: - Chrome dress up ("chrome decor"(?); wheel wells, doors and hood) - Rally II's - Recessed wipers - Rally Gauges w/tach ... but wait - wouldn't optioning for Rally II's have included trim rings? Maybe they were added during the restoration!? I am pretty sure this is the very first Muncie three speed Formula that I have seen restored... at least the first one with the numbers correct drivetrain in tact.

Thats a really well done car.
Very Small contingencies on the wheels and maybe the blue scoop insets. Well, small unless its supposed to have JW wheels. Quote:
Maybe even share the PHS too. Likely just doesn't want people contacting him telling that he has a 25k car and offering 22k. |

At least that's an easy fix.
What's your opinion on the asking price? |

my opinion, (with no skin in the game) is that really nice 1970 Formula's seem to be all at about $40k in asking price these days, so I think he's about right...
Really nice '70 TA's seem to fluctuate more around $50-60k these days... The three speed will hurt it compared to a four speed, but the level of the restoration would put it back up there - and the allure of it being an original three pedal car should keep interest piqued. Maybe my philosophy on selling is off, but especially on bigger ticket items, I believe you have to shoot a little over what you really want in order to get your asking price. So $45k is to me, a good starting point... If the car is half as nice as it presents itself in that listing, it seems a whole lot nicer than any '70 Formula I have ever seen offered. BTW, I messaged the seller a couple minutes ago, I have my fingers crossed (but am not holding my breath) that I hear back from him. CRAP!! I forgot to buy a powerball ticket before flying back home yesterday!!

I wonder what Tim Dye paid for the 4K Mile Black 70 4 speed Formula?

wasn't a value only done for tax purposes?
I understood that car was donated to the museum. Wait a second... you mean the 433 mile car right? I believe that estimated values were higher than this car's asking... but again, that was a special car...

It seems to me that now the '73-74 SD455 cars are out of many people's reach, the 71-72 455HO cars have been getting the loins share of the limelight for early Formulas of late, but it also seems to me that the 1970's are starting to be gaining momentum. I am not saying that because I own one (also to be quite frank, as mine sit's, it's not worth a whole lot).
