Unsure when styles/molds changed, but seeking a good used black console armrest pad assembly that is vinyl covered over foam for an early 70s firebird-- not molded like later version or reproductions I see.

Assume early 70s firebird were that way.

Pretty sure all original console lids were the vinyl over foam type, at least every 75-81 car Ive owned or seen had the soft lid, the hard molded plastics ive seen are aftermarket or maybe later SR GM.

I have a soft black lid id consider selling but its attached to a nice box and prefer not to separate. PM me if interested.

I think your description might throw people off.

These were originally more of a molded rubber than actual vinyl like the seats - at least that has been my interpretation;
The grain matched the console, but the padded vinyl on the console was quite different to the touch.

The only ones I have see which were legitimately vinyl covered were ones that were obviously recovered, and not GM.

It is worth noting that some time after the production run, the service replacement lids were changed to hard plastic.

Over my years of collecting parts I have purchased a few of these lids that were n.o.s. and I think one was over the counter at my local dealership when I also bought a console back in 1990. I don't have any pictures currently because the parts are all stashed away and difficult to get at. I do remember buying an nos lid that had a very thin vinyl over foam. It had a (6) digit part number best I recall. The type of construction of it matched my '71 Firebird's I got back in 1982. I have later versions of the lids that use a thicker more flexible vinyl that has staples around the inside edges of the lid. These with the stakes are what I think are later replacement lids. In my years of collecting I have only seen one lid with the (6) digit part number. These are the (2) versions I have purchased. There may be others? Anyone with parts books?

It surprises me that any originals are still intact. My ‘78 cracked in several places within 4 years. Thankfully they were still available in ‘82 so I was able to replace….

Heres a couple pics of one of the lids I have, pretty sure this is from a 74 T/A I parted out. Might not be the style the OP is looking for, but this is a soft vinyl over what feels like foam or padding of some sort, its not the hard plastic type.

Shows the staples that I thought were from someone trying to repair loose edges but someone commented above the staples were from the factory.

I have another tan lid I will compare it to but its the same type of vinyl material over foam or soft padding as this one. Both will be listed for sale here soon.

I think 1974 and up used staples.... early pads did not. Although yours appears to perhaps have been added by someone as you mention

Just to throw something into the mix...

A high school buddy of mine had a '75 T/A look-alike. ISTR his armrest pad being similar to the one in my bought-new-in-'82 SE (though admittedly, '82 came along a few years after high school - LOL); that is, a rubber-like vinyl molded over foam. In my '82, on hot days, it would get tacky to the touch, like the grip on my tennis racket (and probably still does, as my SE is still parked in the backyard). It was the only piece in the interior like that. Even the door pulls were made of the more traditional (harder) molded plastic.

Ames has lids which look like what I recall, and are listed as all the same for the 2nd gen (whether that is correct or not I cannot say).

Oh, and as an aside, I've had good dealings with the eBay seller (stillwellobsolete) in the pic above.

Picked this up at a swap, guy said it’s a GM pad, bought in the 90’s from Year One, in black, sprayed camel w/ Dye.
GM box too. It’s stapled. ( not for sale)
It was so perfect I couldn’t resist.
