My 72 Conv has rusted out flanges on the automatic transmission crossmember. I thought I could put any cross member from that year in the car ,now I've been told that I need one from a conv or a455 model with a boxed frame , is this true? Is this part going to be hard to find, maybe I should weld up my rusted one. Thanks for any info you all might have one this question, Bob

Figure out what the original length was and add the nessessary amount to it.If you don't have a welder yourself,it shouldn't cost that much to have a shop do it.
If you buy a used one,it would probably already have been fixed. So fix yours and save a few bucks!

There are only 2 crossmembers....All 1968-72 A body "convertible" crossmembers are the same shorter because of "boxed" frame. All 1968-72 A body "hardtop" crossmembers are the same. That's Chevelle, Cutlass, 442, GS, etc. + 69-72 GP and I think 69-72 Monte Carlo. Good crossmembers are not hard to find (especially dry climate areas.
