Does anyone have / make a piece for the radio area that people use to cut out for 8-track, I want to use it with my original bezel ???

Find a donor and manufacture it in or you'll have to buy a repo.

I would buy the repo bezel and be done with it.......really hard to find a good bezel that has not been cut yet still has nice chrome edging throughout. even if you do find 1, you will be out a couple hundred $$ or more. the costs of a rechrome is close to that of the repo also. anyway ya slice it, its a labor intensive swap. if I remember, years ago year one use to have a piece you could sub in for the radio hole I believe. but it was discontinued. I tried chrome paint on the edge or borders once. looked good but then faded to gray after a year or so. had more success and looked better with the thin chrome stick on film/paper cut to fit with a sharp exacto. (although I did not try the oval pods), but it tends to lift after a season or 2 with temp changes and such. someday I will purchase a new repo and be done with it.SLASH.

There is a guy who redoes you bezel and repairs radio area with a nice repro piece. But I can't find him anymore, but he wouldn't sell just the repro piece seperate.

Honestly, by the time you get done paying someone else to redo the chrome or repair the bezel, you'd be better off buying the repo and you probably won't be happy with their results. I've looked at a couple of bezels that had been re-chromed on display by the vendor and the new repo looks better plus for what they wanted to refinish your old one, the new one was less than $50 more. They are that nice.

Our host PY, Ames, E-bay. They all sell them for $350 basically with or without AC.

If you go with A repo bezel you also have to buy woodgrain insert. I don't know about 70 or 72 but the repo Burl-Grain for the 71 that I saw was not close to original looking. I believe you also have to buy the aluminum swirled dash insert.

Correct. Although I'm not sure about the differences you mentioned on the repo woodgrains.

The '71 vinyl insert is a problem. In the factory literature I have GM called it castillion leather. It does look more like brown leather than woodgrain.

Good info on the bezel, guys what is that decal like to get on the bezel? Maybe two sets of hands puttting it on would not be bad.

I would like to replace mine, but haven't found where all the connection bolts are yet to get that bezel out. One is up by the Pontiac label, one must in the other corner, looks like the washer switch holds the bottom on along with the dials.

Thanks,

Brent

In my experience it would be almost impossible to remove the bezel without pulling the entire dashboard out of the car

Thanks BN, I was sorta planning to get comfortable under there tonight and start loosening screws.

Ebay has a couple for sale, some of the pics show a pin or two.

It's really not that bad of a job to remove dash. Just be careful not to damage it as you take it out.
