7/16 rocker studs for 6x heads?
Im going to be converting the rocker studs to 7/16 OEM BBC studs on a pair of 6x heads soon, can anyone confirm what BBC studs I need to do this? Are these just a certain year/vehicle I would order from any parts store like napa or summit, or are they something more special that needs to be aftermarket?
I see lots of options when doing a search for them, I dont think I need ARP or other expensive studs as this is just a mild cam at ~.480 lift in a street car, OEM BBC studs should be plenty strong. I may use poly locks but the factory crimped nuts should be OK too i would assume, the crimped nuts worked for 10's of thousands of miles on the cars that had them. A part# would be great or just the years/vehicles that will work is fine and I can shop around for the best price on them. Thanks in advance for any info. |

Paul Spots sells RAIV spec studs on Ebay very reasonable priced for trouble free use on your heads

Thanks. Are RAIV studs the correct length for standard non RA heads like mid 70's 6x?
Ive seen the butler studs and some on ebay, Im OK with buying those if needed. Just wondering if there was an OEM option I could find locally at NAPA or oreilys etc to avoid paying shipping? |

Standard BBC stuff from 1965 ish to the mid 80's, 396,402 427 454. Pioneer, Dorman or Melling will most likely be the cheapest.

Some of the generic BBC studs the hex points stick up a little and can rub a big bodied roller rocker so I like the ARPs. The "regulars" are fine for stamped steel-and what HO used to sell with a thick hardened 7/16 washer to run under the nut.

I´m using Pioneer S-1001 CBB studs with the crimped nuts set 1 turn preload on stamped steel original rockers.
No extra washer needed and the oil drip baffles under valve covers fits just fine. |
