motor mounts
I'm helping a friend with a 65 GTO Conv with a 68 400 motor. are the motor mounts different as one is taller? are they usually marked L and R? would the L be the drivers side? Is it normal the tailshaft of the TH400 is off center 1/4 to 1/2 " to on side? Thanks for any help.

Usually , if the mount is made with a torque limiting device ( like a tab in a slot), that one goes on the side where it will be in tension (not compression). So in other words, the drivers side. The pass side will be in compression so it doesn't need anything to limit pulling the rubber apart

L and R on a vehicle are referenced as if you were sitting in the driver's seat.
Left is the "driver's side" in North America and most of the world. |

Speaking of motor mounts, for any of you doing a 1961-1964 big car or a 1969 GP Right hand motor mounts are on back order everywhere. If you are not concerned with originality the Left mount works just fine on the Right hand side. The only difference, the Left has a tab to restrain the engine from lifting if the rubber separates.
