Default "REM" brand aluminum backing plate for 1967 gto instrument bezel:

I was going to glue the vinyl/aluminum backing plate assembly to the instrument bezel this morning and noticed there was a 1/16-1/8" gap between the plate and the edge of the bezel on both sides. Also some of the holes in the plate don't line up with the holes in the bezel. I am assuming the bezel from my car is the original one. I bought the backing plate from Ames several months ago but I'm just now getting to fixing the bezel. The vinyl sticker is also made by REM. Anybody else have fitment issues with these backing plates? I wonder if the backing plates are made to fit the repo instrument bezels. I'm going to reach out to Ames and see what they say.

You can hardly tell that there is a gap if before you install the backing plate you run about an 1/8th wide black paint stripe around the outer edge where the wood decal comes up short

The face of the bezel is already black. I'm thinking about calling REM and letting them know about the issue. Called Ames yesterday and let them know but they only sell the REM backing plate. Surely someone else that has bought this part has noticed this issue.

Except he was talking about painting the
aluminum backing plate. It's 1000X easier
to do that before you install it... HTH.

Okay, I see what he said now about painting the edge of the backing plate. The backing plate still should go from edge to edge, no gaps.

Definitely a terrible repo item , send it back & get one with the raw walnut veneer from year one, fit is excellent , REM simulated vinyl is terrible & not even close for fitment.
