Lightbulb Need a Shipper

From Detroit Michigan to Quakertown PA. Thought I had that taken care of but the seller informed me the guy he had in mind doesn’t come my way any more. I’ve al ready dialed in with U Ship for quotes, but they all seem high to me. Our trailer needs work, and not road worthy now. I also need it to be no more than a 2 car trailer as both the seller and I live on narrow country roads.

I got it thank you for the offer, but like you said you’re kinda far, and it’s 8 to 9 hours al ready from here to Detroit. My Son is supposed to be checking some options. We’re planning on getting a new trailer but not until Spring, didn’t expect to be needing one so soon. Ringo Hill trailer sales builds them per order. Just a weird thing that a car I approved of was found so quickly in my budget. Frustrating....

There's going to be a boat load of car carriers, going East from Arizona (B-Jackson ordeal).
I don't know what they charge, but just a thought if nothing else.

Yes I was told about that, and it’s those shippers who are price gouging. $850 for an 8 hour run is rediculious., especially since they’re re going this way, but most of those guys have the big dealership transporters, and both the seller and I cannot have one of those where we live.

MA, what’s realistic in your eyes? It’s the drivers market, you need, they got...
Detroit makes it rough as well because it is “out of the way” a bit for the guys hauling cross country.

This shipper is in the State the car is in, and I’m The next State over. 8 hour trip straight through. I get that they have to make money too, but the differences in amounts were all over the board from $1200 to $889 to $678 to $595 to $550. And 3 of those were in the area of the car. It’s all good a learning experience at least. I’ve never bought a car sight un seen, I based my decisions on what people who have dealt with him are saying. So we’ll see how the shipper is going to treat me. hopefully everything goes well.

probably 200.00+ for fuel. 50.00+ for tolls. an hour to load. an hour to unload. so now its a 10 plus hour run if he runs 70 miles per hour for the whole 8 hour run.

850.00 - 200.00 - 50.00 = 600.00 divided by 10 = 60.00/hr - truck/trailer/cargo insurance.

they aren't making a killing.

I paid a guy 800.00+ to go from Lancaster pa to Elkhart Indiana to pickup my new trailer because it would have cost me 200.00+ in fuel, 100.00 in tolls, 30+ hours of my time. well worth it in my mind

I bought a car from Illinois and trailered it myself to NJ. My tolls from Ill to NJ were $200.00 with a trailer, $100.00 without a trailer driving there.

Exactly. It's not the shippers fault. I incurred similar toll fees when I trailered my '77 Trans Am home from Milwaukee, WI. to NY. The sad part is that the toll roads were in the poorest condition! With fuel, lodging, tolls, food I spent almost $600 to bring it home! This is not factoring in my time!

Detroit Michigan to Quakertown PA is around 600 loaded miles

Loaded miles are when the car is in the trailer on it's way

But - auto transport is seldom about just the loaded miles

A hauler has to drive empty from the pick up location and from the drop off location to the next haul

There is little demand to haul into Detroit - particuarly in the Winter

If you are passing thru Detroit from the west headed east - chances are you are full

Auto show & auction transport is arranged months in advance

If a hauler is going thru Detroit - they are hopefully headed to the East Coast & have a load waiting headed south along I-95

Otherwise they are left sitting at an expensive motel burning thru money

Depending on the time of year - road conditions & prevailing weather can make the transport risky or just not cost effective for an experienced hauler

Most experienced haulers stay out of the Upper Midwest & the Northeast in
a bad winter - this is a bad winter - you risk losing your equipment and your load

I left East Haven, CT on Christmas day before the extended cold streak hit

Today I am in New Mexico

Hopefully you contracted directly with the person who drives the truck that pulls the trailer that holds your car

I honestly did not think I’d get a hit on the car that was right for me this time of year, but wanted to get the word out there now to start the ball rolling. I still have to sell my 09 Challenger, and figured I’d be ok until Spring. But I couldn’t let this deal get away, and still have to sell the R/T.

Maryann,

I am never offended! Had I quoted you this transport, it would have been right at the $850.00 for single car enclosed (open trailer a bit less) you thought was crazy. Since I am booked 3-6 weeks in advance all year round & turn down more transports than most others ever get...Someone else would have taken the spot.

I would have thanked you for the opportunity to quote you the job & told you to keep me in mind for the future.

It would be wise to stay away from Uship completely, but if anyone must use it, do NOT provide your phone number. You will be bothered for up to 4 months after the transport is done by brokers. At least using an email, you can just delete it without being harassed

Also, QUALITY transporters only quote loaded miles. Logistics is part of a transporters job. There are very few places in this country that are hard to get a transport into if you have the kind of customer base & reputation that I have.

I hope whomever you chose does a good job & your new "baby" gets there safe & sound.

God Bless

Over the years I have had six cars transported across USA to Long Beach for sea transport to Australia. My first shipping arrangement was with a big well known transport company and organised by a damned broker. After that disaster where the car was unloaded and reloaded about four times across the country and took twice as long to get to Long Beach than had been promised, I sourced owner drivers and have had great service from then on.
