Default Glove Box lock stuck

Locked the glove box in my GTO few days back while out running errands. Now, won’t unlock. And it has some things inside I sure would like to get out.

I’m not sure why the same key would turn the mechanism to lock the glove box, but won’t turn it to unlock. Both myself and my dad have fiddled with it, unsuccessfully.

Any tips or tricks to open a locked glove box without causing damage?

70 GTO, if it makes any difference.

There should be four 1/4" hex head sheet metal screws holding the doors hinge to the front bottom of the dash panel.

Remove these and you should beable to fold the door open some from the bottom.
