Fantastic time for sure, but it does make you realise how good Marty Palbykins runs were back in '96 , 6.95 in a 2950 lb car using a factory block just 400 cu in engine, in a 2500 lb car that would be a 6.58!

Hi,
Based on the reason for the 1/8 mile Table, I can not.

This table is for those who race mostly 1/8 mile and have a better 1/8 mile et than from their Best 1/4 mile et or may not even have 1/4 mile et.

That et is already in the 1/4 mile section.

Marty was at 2950 when he ran the 6.96 ET in the quarter years ago. (I just spoke with him). That being said, he DID put the car on a diet over several years AFTER after that.
As well as better chassis work later on. The 6.95 ET was with the cast iron block/head 406 engine, twin turbos, and fabricated intake, in the chassis done by Jeff Covey, a Pro Mod racer and chassis builder.

Your number is a good number for the ET, the weight, and the engine.

I just cleaned up and deleted a bunch of crap from this discussion.

If you come here to talk race cars, that's great. If the only reason you come here is to stir up s**t, you're in the wrong place.

SO who else is anxious to see other Tommy Y. GTO get the fast Poncho in it and it hits the track? He is the fastest 1/8th mph by 10 .. 191 freaking mph ! PS: totally awesome to see Marty stats from 25 years ago and what he did with what he had vs the crazy good stuff we have now....

Marty was basically TWO SECONDS faster that any of the other Pontiac Guys, and in 1995-1996 Marty was running a Cast Iron Head and Block 406 engine and Arnie was running a Chebby engine in his 64 Race car.
I believe also he was the first Traditional Pontiac Engine Guy to run EFI with a Turbo system on the drag strip.

Not quite sure why Arnie Beswick is being infused in this conversation? To my knowledge, he never ran a single or twin turbocharged Pontiac or "Chevy based" engine. He was also running 40-45 events a year in that time period. Marty's accomplishments stand on their own merits without bashing the 91 year old godfather of Pontiac drag racing.

I apologize, was never meant to be a bash on Arnie.
I thought the topic was about the fastest Pontiac Door car list.

Correct me again Mike, if I am wrong on this, but was not Arnie's later engines from GM based on a Chevrolet Block with Chevy Design heads with a Chevy Bore Spacing? (and a Pontiac Part Number and logo on the heads.)

Same deal that John Clegg ran for several years in his firebirds?

Why would I bash someone who used to buy Pontiac Parts from my Uncle's Dealership????

Did he put a Pontiac engine in it?

I thought it was common knowledge that Arnie had a Chevy engine in his last few years of racing. N2O engine I believe.

When it came out the orange 70 that had the Pontiac in it with performance posted above had switched to a aftermarket proline hemi for better performance in his class he had said his 64 gto race car is getting that same pontiac engine he ran in the orange 70

Actually, your right. I thought I was in a different thread as well. But Arnie never ran any engine in the 64 GTO Tameless Tiger that would be eligible for Stan's list. That car always ran the Pro Stock "Pontiac" engine. I put it in quotes because as you correctly stated is was BBC based with Aluminum heads designed by Pontiac. They were very good actually. They made many different versions and Arnie had the early very hard to find castings. Back to topic, Fastest traditional Pontiac powered door cars.

We'll try 1/8 once we get the 1/4 sorted out.

Tom,
The internet is a strange and scary place. People don't know what has happened before now and post up some really foolish things. I see where some "Pontiac Expert" has posted that a twin turbo charged stock block will not be able to make a full pass without braking.

Let me rephrase that

We'll try the 1/8 once we get the first half of the 1/4 sorted out as I expect we'll need some changes to optimize for 1/8 only.
