Since you can't hear it run, or test the transmission, I would offer core prices, and assume both pieces need complete rebuilding.

$100 for the engine, and $50 for the transmission.

I know, "It ran perfectly before we pulled the engine", heard that line way too many times in the past to believe it.

My rule of thumb is core value, unless I can hear it run, or drive it to test the transmission. Even when buying from a junkyard that warranties the engine, or transmission, few places will pay the labor to R&R the parts once in the car, and finding that the part in question is defective. They'll give you another used part, but usually that's as far as the warranty goes.

I made my living for 40 plus years repairing cars, and same as "shipping isn't free", when buying online, labor to R&R defective parts isn't either.

In this case if you found out the part wasn't as good as described, they don't have another unit to give you to make you whole. And good luck getting any portion of your money refunded on a private transaction.

If the seller will allow some disassembly for verification that the used part may be what they claim, then the price can be adjusted. Most people won't allow you to do that though.

At least -$100 (they pay me $100) to remove. I already have a couple of 326s and auto trans cores that I'm too lazy to scrap.

There is a similar ad around here on CL - $500 for a used up 326. It's been up for a while.

The trans is worthless unless you need it. Just scrapped 6 th350 and 4 Th400's (65, 69, 70, 80) all Pontiac
All were working well and I had driven them.
The engine. If original heads, those are 80cc and can be used on a 400. good block too. If there is video of the engine and doesnt smoke or knock, And you want it, could be worth $200-250. Cheap way to get a car running

Wish I would have known about one of those free TH400s

I've got a '77 350 complete, less carb, & the TH350 that was bolted to it. I assumed the 6x-4 heads should be worth at least $200, probably more. Assume the Q-jet intake should be worth $75-$100, & at least $50 for the TH350 core.

But, I've had absolutely no offer on any of it. As I've said many times, In my area, Pontiac parts are worthless, if you're trying to sell. It's different, if I'm trying to buy, unless it's from a friend.

Good luck !

PS: Just curious. What 1980 model Pontiac came with a TH400 ? Behind what engine ?

A 77 EGR intake is .. hard to sell.
A 77 block is not a prize for a 350 as I recall
Heads are worth 200 , yup
Right now scrap #2 any metal is low.
Pure AL is worth a bunch more.
I should have been more clear on the '80 TH400
Came from a Caddy with an Olds engine ( I think)
and had the BOP-C bellhousing, where the others were just BOP.
Pretty much the first year and last year TH400 in that load.
None were PQ

I've got a running non-smoking 1970 Pontiac 350 with 350th transmission for sale.
