Default Strange oil pressure readings

Below 3000rpm oil pressure is great and steady at 40psi cruising. Once I get above 3000 it drops to 20psi until I lift a little then it will rise to 35 psi but drop again to 20/25 psi. This is cruising at 65mph at 3250rpm.
Any ideas? Could it be low oil level? I have trouble reading the level on my dipstick as it had to be modified to fit into the sump. Oil pump is a 60 psi one.

I suggest a low oil level where the pump is sucking air. A distant Knocking will soon come closer.

Need to add more oil, like 2-quarts.

Before driving it anymore, drain the pan.Put the required oil(probable 6qt) in and MARK the level on your dipstick.Dont guess,do it right.Tom

Sounds like either low oil level, or the pump pick up has moved .
Either way having only 20 psi at 3250 rpm is right on the edge of needing to call a flat bed truck to bring you home!

As posted add 2 Qts and see what changes, if that does nothing then its pull the pan off time!

Pump cavitation normally bounces the reading. Where are you taking this measurment from?

Low oil level will show itself in a turn pretty quickly. You will drop to nothing.

Chief I'm reading from the next to dizzy and as it goes over 3000 it does go up and down but only by 10 or so psi and stays low. Thats cruising at 60/65.
Doesn't seem a problem on turns as below 3000 it's fine.
I'll add some more and see what happens. If the pick up has moved would it not show up on low revs?

Not certain but.....I installed Spotts Scraper plate with the baffled Pan and seems the engine does well around turns, and i have not been checking the level like a persnickity 455 of old with a baffled pan or windage tray and baffled pan.

Spare engine build just has the Canton baffled Pan, no windage tray, no scraper, due to Aluminum Rods.

Pickups don't move: cannot move up due to pump base, cannot move down due to pan. Can only fall off.

just had a racing buddy with oil pressure issue -- when the rpms went up the pressure dropped off ---- took it apart and there was a bunch of silicone bits in the pan and on the screen -- at higher rpm they were getting sucked up into the screen and reducing the pressure -- then fall down again at lower rpm ---

Check pressure at the filter base.

Looks like it was low oil level. Put more in and was ok for the drive home. Had steady 45psi at 3500 revs and never dropped.
Had a head gasket go at the track so I've got work to do anyway over the winter. Might be time for a freshen up too.
