Default Better Steering Box than Lares

Hi Guys, is there a better factory style steering box that Lares. I am pulling one out already for leaks after 4 months. Also, there was slop in the gears when the steering wheel was centered. Don't want a modern super tight box. Want the car to drive as it was. Think it was 2 1/2 lock to lock I think. Thanks!

I don't know how to describe it. This Lares box is geared differently. Its still like 2 1/2 lock to lock but it seems quick ratio right from center. That is not what my prior, original steering box with 53,000 miles felt like. My original box was easer to turn.

The Borgeson box is superior but if you’re stuck on Lares then RockAuto sells them. The Borgeson box is only 450. It is 2 turns lock to lock and is what you describe

I swapped out my original box with a third gen Z28 box I had laying around. Other than an incredible amount of leaking from the Lee steering hose adapters, it was fairly decent. To stop the leak, I replaced the hoses and ordered a "WS6" box from Rock Auto and it absolutely sucks.....I am pretty sure it is slower than the Z28 box and has zero road feel but doesn't leak.

I plan to replace it with and original WS6 box that I verified the car it came off of and if that doesn't work, I will replace it with the Borgeson box over the winter. Here is a link to a review: https://nastyz28.com/threads/finally...ng-box.324423/

The biggest difference is there in no dead on center, which gives you a ton more confidence driving. My dad and brother liked it so much they bought them for their 2nd gens as well, its well worth the money.

Yes, I have talked to Lares tech support several times. They don't get or want to admit what I am talking about. Lots of dead space on center, little power assist. :-(
