I live in michigan. Don't hunt here much anymore. I lease ground in IL,OH,and IND. 3 of those bucks came off public ground. I used to guide for an outfitter in IL. Not interested in that anymore. I like to do it my way...

Our bow season has finally opened but no bowhunting for me until this weekend. Looks like rain and 15-30 MPH wind... still better than anything else I could think of doing

Bow season opened here Monday to RAIN....lots of RAIN. I'm not complaining; we needed the rain, but any trails out there are gone now. Talk to a guy Saturday that had seen ZERO deer in an area(Crawford Co.) that normally has plenty of deer.

Well - just a check in on what has gone on so far.
10/6/12 saw 14 deer, 1 small buck.
10/07/12 No deer seen from stand, killed big rattlesnake in trail 37 degrees.
10/13/12 saw 1 deer from stand AM - good 8 pointer (passed) Didn't hunt PM.
10/14/12 saw 2 does AM hunt - Didn't hunt PM. Lots of Scrapes opening up.
10/19/12 8:40 Cold AM heard chasing behind me. Spike chasing 2 doe fawns. they go by on my right. 10 minutes later another spike comes up same trail nosee to the ground grunting every step. 5 minutes later a 4 point comes up same trail grunting. 3 minutes later 6 point comes from my left, crosses to my right and hits doe fawn trail, nose go's to ground and he follows it. 30 minutes later doe fawns come back down the hill and are picking up acorns near me, 1 lays down, 5 minutes later it jumps up and they run down hill on my left. I look up and see really good 8 pointer coming down their scent trail nose to the ground grunting. I pass on him as we only have 2 buck tags in Oklahoma and I have the 27th through 4th , 9th through 12th of November, and the 17th through 25th of November off just for deer hunting and have seen some larger bucks on trailcam. Definitely heating up on rut activity. That evening I saw a 6 point chasing a group of 6 does.
10/21/12 - got hot overnight, strong south wind. No deer seen.

Muzzleloader comes in Saturday in Central North Carolina. I plan on being in the stand before daylight if I can get my guns to shoot (see post in Members Helping Members).

That's great. And it's the only way that venison doesn't get that gamey taste to it. I've had venison that tasted so bad the dog wouldn't eat it... I knew exactly what they didn't do.

I think rifle deer season opened last Saturday up in NY's Northern hunting zone. Boy do I miss the woods and all that piece and quiet sitting on watch.

Update. Saturday morning 10/27/12 shot a pretty nice 8 pointer with my muzzleloader. I watched him fight another really good buck for about 20 minutes then the other one ran away with him prodding him along the way. He came back and followed the doe 60 yards from my stand and I blew his heart out. My wife also got a nice 8 the same day.

10/28/12 saw several small bucks chasing. Back bowhunting.

10/29/12 passed a real good 8 pointer up in the am chasing does. Saw 21 deer this day, really moving.

10/30/12 heat has come back, slowed the activity somewhat. Saw 2 small and 1 good buck and 1 doe and a flock of turkeys. On stand right now...

Can't post pics from my phone yet...

Saw more deer along I-95 Sunday night driving back than I've seen all season back in Indiana. Saw some good size hogs as well.

The other night my Son was in his Tree Stand and heard some rustling out in front of him, He turned his Primos "doe in a can" over three times and a very nice 8 pointer came running in, He drew his bow back and waited for what seemed like at least 5 minutes for the buck to turn and give him a shot.....The buck started to walk away and than turned back and allowed my son the opportunity to add # 5 to the living room wall.

Congrats to your son on a great buck! I have used "the can" on numerous occasions and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't depending on the point in the rut the deer are in.

I need to get some pics loaded of this yrs deer... too much stuff to do...
