Default Quick Performance Posi Package

Anybody use one of Quick Performance's packages? Seems like a good deal. I'm getting ready to order parts to change the rear of my '76 GP from 2.41 open to 3.08 posi. I decided on an Eaton Trutrac carrier but wasn't sure which brand ring and pinion gears to use. The QP package comes with their brand R&P 'made by major ring manufacturer'. It also comes with Timken pinion and carrier bearings. Their optional solid pinion spacer is also less expensive than the crush sleeve eliminators that I have seen. Should I be concerned about who makes their R&P gears? Here is the link to their package:

I bought their 40 spline Pro Gear spool kit along with Moser aluminum thru bolt 9" case and Moser 40 spline gun drilled star flanged axles.
They are the go to people for that stuff IMO. Great to deal with.

I bought one of their kits for my 8.5 when I upgraded from 3.08 to 3.55. I opted for the Eaton True Trac and paid extra for U.S. Gear gear set. Of note, I couldn’t find another vendor who had 3.55s for the 8.5 rear. QP were the best price, shipped quickly and were an absolute pleasure to deal with.

OP - I have a stock GM 3.08 ring and pinion if needed - for an 8.5 rear

Unless it's changed in the last couple years their standard in house gear brand is Yukon Gear. I put a set of these and a yukon gear carrier in my wife's Chevelle and they worked great. No vibrations, quiet operation etc. Of course the car was a near stocker, so we weren't stressing the parts much at all.

Thanks all for your info and experiences with QP. I was just concerned about getting cheap chinese gears. Their package makes it easy to order most everything at once, I'll place my order in the next few days.

I have a Tru Trac and its flawless. I went overkill too and I dont think I will ever have to worry about it.

Another vote for Quick Performance. I installed one of their fabricated 9" rear ends with TrueTrac in my '66. They're the go-to company for rear end stuff. Best prices and quality work.

And yet another vote for Brydon and the folks at Quick Performance. I went 9” with a Ford Motorsports brand Trac-Lock, 31 spline axles and 3:60’s (Yukon). Upgraded the center with Pro N-Case, 5/8” cap bolts and aluminum Daytona pinion support. 1350 steel yoke. Good for probably 600+hp. Basically all the components assembled just bolt on the 3rd member, axles and brakes. Shipped UPS in four boxes, no freight necessary! A quality, complete 9” rear including drum brakes for what… half the price of a Curry?

Helped a friend install a QP in 71 ElCo. He just put some 1/4 passes on it with no issues. Very happy with the combo.

I received the QP kit in the mail today, I was surprised with the fast shipping. After opening the box I'm disappointed that the bearings are made in Japan Koyo. The guy I spoke to at QP said they would be made in USA Timken. I don't know if there is a difference in quality . The ring and pinion gears are in a box that says made in China. I don't see any obvious flaws in the parts and will install them myself in the next few weeks and see what happens.

Jd0n88–wanted to follow up with you here. I went ahead and ordered a similar kit-Eaton TrueTrac w/QP in-house ring and pinion. When I spoke to them I brought up the concern that one of the Pontiac Forum members had been told by QP that he would be receiving Timken bearings but in fact was sent Koyo. He said “yeah, sometimes those slip through but that is what is being but in all current production vehicles”. Don’t know if this is accurate or not, just reporting what I heard. He went on to say that he would make sure that my package had Timken bearings if that is what I wanted. I need to get my axle housing cleaned up and painted before the install so you may have yours done before I do so I would still like to hear your thought overall. Lee

I started working on the rear this weekend. The QP kit included an install kit from USA Standard gear. I noticed the pinion gear doesn't have smooth surfaces where the bearings go, it has a rough coating. Also, I think the end of the pinion is marked for depth but I'm not sure about the numbers. It has 2.57 which is close to what I measured for the old one, 2.604, but shouldn't it be carried out to the thousandth of an inch? There is also a number 162, not sure if that is related.
