The famous NSR ... did great on the race track but was a bit expensive to build Not sure why they stopped racing it, might have been ruled out by the governing body.

Correction ... that is a Honda NR500, not a NSR500.
It's a 500cc engine. At the time GP motorcycle racing rules said no more than four combustion chambers ... so Honda built a 500cc "V8" by using a common combustion chamber covering what would normally be two cylinders .. making it technically a four cylinder with eight valves per cylinder.

Raced a few times, not very successfully. The road going version was the most expensive to produce motorcycle ever sold to the public.

Smokey Yunick would have loved the thought that went into that Honda engine. Talk about bending the rules!! Wow!
