Default 66 Catalina frame interchange

Does anyone know what year and models will interchange frames with a 66 Catalina? Just bought one and didn’t realize how bad the frame was.

2 door? 4 door?

For sure 65 and 66 Catalina 2 dr and convertible as well as Grand Prix. Thought I did hear that the wagon frame is the same somewhere also.

Mine is a 4dr HT. I keep seeing conflicting info where the 4dr and 2dr are different or the same.

Floor pans interchange - assume the 2/4 door frames will as well.

Convertible frames, in addition to being boxed for strength like GP have an extra pair of body mounts compared to sedans.

While not absolutely necessary, a few folks have said the extra stiffness of adding the mount and bolt to a closed body produced a noticeable improvement in ride and handling.

Think if you could score a dry convertible frame for same year, that would be the best option for you. Clean it up, replace stuff while it is easy, then slam it back together.

Any frame shop should have access to cad drawings of the frames, this would tell you everything you want to know & more.
Good luck!

The three '66 Cats (1 4door sedan, 2 two door hardtops) I've parted all had straight solid frames & from each of them, the frames went north and then were assembled under '66 Cat 2 doors. 66 Cat 2 door & 4 door use same frame. Memory serves right, '66 GP used the same frame as well. Have never owned a '66 Cat wagon. '66 Exec & Bonne use 3" longer wheelbase frame.

Just spoke with a friend of mine that has an interchange software. The info was a little odd in that it lists 65 and 66 as not interchanging (think minor differences on them, but should work) On 65 it lists HT, SW and 4dr as the same for Catalina, but 66 it had differences. Also shows GP and vert only and not interchanging, but we know that you can put a GP under a Catalina and would be considered HD. Anyway, just posting some of the frame part numbers above for ref.
