Will a 1979 timing cover and water pump fit a 1965 421?What about the balancer?79 or65 or does it matter.

Yes should bolt right up, the timing marks are different though.

Your only problem may be your pulleys won't interchange between the two balancer styles, nor will the pulleys line up to drive the accessories. Otherwise yes, the later parts will fit the earlier engine.

It will not work(without modifications) if running a Tri-Power.
The earlier timing covers have a dimple to clear the Tri-Power Water Neck, the later ones don't. |

The T-cover will physically bolt up, but your pulley spacing will be off. You would have to use all the later 79 bracketing to get it all right. You're better off buying a new 65 style T-cover, unless you are prepared to change everything on the front of the engine.
