Default headgasket

I installed a set of new headgaskets of unknown orgin on a 030 overbore 455,the gasketa protrude into the cyl,is this ok?

In a word: No.

The gasket edge that protrudes into the cylinder will glow like a candle. Not good.

You want you head gasket to be at least .020 bigger in diameter then any part of the bore hole.

The edge of the gasket is what seals the combustion event, without that seal, the gasket will leak. It would be a mess within the first minute or two of operation.

Make sure the gasket you use, fits the head and the block, as Dude, stated...

Each manufacturer has something in that edge layer that is compressed when the gasket is torqued down, making the seal needed.

My victor-reinz gaskets did that tried two sets both the same put felpro on fit perfect. Victor did not seem to care. Rod
