68 Deluxe steering wheel
Hello has any body restored a deluxe plastic steering wheel? I have ground out the cracks and filled them and sanded and then re sanded a couple of times. What paint would you recommend? By the way what a pain in the you know what!

Somewhere on the forum is a very extensive thread by a guy that restored his plastic wheel, I forget what section it's in.

I am just going to start this process. Seems For 15 make a kit, but it has way more in it than needed for about $65. I have some JB Weld I am thinking of using as it is two part epoxy.
Related are 68 wheels suppose to be round? Mine is round at the bottom because the spokes hold it there, but oval at the top. Just wondering if it needs to be straightened first before repair. |

1968 GTO steering wheels are oval. See picture.

Thanks 68GTOMN on the steering wheel being oval. I looked at the dimensions and it would take ¾ to bring it into round. So I figured they were oval from factory.

The wheel I have was painted with Behr paint for plastic bought at Home Depot. My wheel is Turquoise and color match was very good. Previous owner did the work and gave me the rest of the can for possible touch up or rework.

I believe I may have asked you about that paint before Mcronk?
I have a turquoise one hanging in my garage in need of restoration. Don't know if I'll ever do it....meanwhile, I have a near perfect black one that I might paint though..

Greg,
You did and I believe I sent you a picture of the paint can with code on it. If you need it again I can send it. Here is a link to video of car and interior shot of wheel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a32DcVqSzic |

Yes, if you wouldn't mind. I can't remember where I saved it!

68 steering wheel paint
Greg, here is the paint I used. It was from a automotive paint supply store not Home Depot. Match was excellent to the rest of interior.

Thanks, I assume they computer matched it from your old wheel? Don't see any clues on the can as to what they mixed..
