Default Anyone here own a C1, C2 or C3 Corvette?

I'm curious as to who here might own an early Corvette. In the early 70's my brother and myself bought our 67 GTOs from different people who had recently bought C3 Vettes and wanted to unload the Goats. I've often wondered if they are still happy with that decision.

I know that at least a couple of guys here (C1 and C2 owners) frequent the Corvetteforum.com. I post there because I own an old Corvette, and I find the knowledge base of those cars equal to what we have here in regard to Pontiacs.

It seems that quite a few of the Corvette forum guys also own or did own a GTO. So who else here owns a GTO and a vintage Corvette??

'Fess up and tell me about it. It's our secret.

Have always had my '69 along with a GTO. Currently no Pontiac in the garage hope to fix that in the spring. Recently inherited this Caddy. Truth be know I enjoy talking to GTO owners than Corvette owners at a cruise or car show, not all the time just most of the time.

Salem, I really like the Coupe Deville. First year of the rectangular headlamps for the big $ GM cars.

Thanks, was my wife's fathers car. 24k miles. Fills the garage and then some. One reason to sell my last GTO.

I own a 70 454 4spd coupe. Never owned a GTO but still have 3 birds, A GP, and a Grandville conv that is the same color as your Caddy. I don't favor the Corvette but every time I take it for a ride, I don't want to sell it. It's such a torque monster (500 lb/ft). No matter what people say, a Chevy is easier to get power out of.

Got a 65 Coupe, 70 Goat and 68 Bird...
Tearing down the rear suspension right now on the Vette, way more complicated than any other rear end. Parts are stupid expensive.

We've owned a C3 and C5 Corvette.

It's no secret that we enjoy this hobby for everything it has to offer and own several Chevrolet's and Fords currently, as well as our Pontiacs.

Had a survivor 71 454 vette with 30k original miles with Bloomington certification for a few years. My wife ended up daily driving it for a couple years. Got the evil eye from the vette crowd for that Even took it to the Muscle Car drags a couple times to see what a bone stocker would do. Sold it with 48k on it. Fantastic cars. Just not very family friendly.

Bought an 04 Z06, another fantastic vette that was very fun to drive. I used that one for a while but again, not very family friendly. Wife wasn't interested in that one at all so it went down the road.

I wouldn't mind owning another vette but quite honestly since we are very family oriented, and we daily drive our classics, I just don't see another one in the stable. I'm not interested in something to stare at. If we can't use it as a family then it ends up not being very useful.

I currently have a '71 LT-1 Corvette. I've had a few other Corvettes over the years.

All gone.

I had several mid-year (now C2 Corvettes) back in the 70’s in Illinois.
Absolutely the best era of the Vettes.

I moved to California in ‘78 in a 1966 GTO.
I brought with me the last things I had, which was a ‘63 FI unit and a Mint Teakwood Steering Wheel.

I sold the FI soon after settling in CA, but still have the Teak.
Bought the Teakwood in 1975 at the Famous Bob McDorman Corvette show in Columbus OH. for 3 bills (lots of money then).

Best Teakwood Wheel I’ve ever seen.

Chris.

I've owned a few C3s, and currently still have one.

They're different animals compared to traditional muscle cars. They're a blast though, and super fun to drive.

I owned a 70 350/350 4 speed T-Top car along with my 69 GTO. I had to sell the Corvette in a crunch (27 years ago) and have missed it ever since then. Thankfully, I have managed to keep the GTO to this day. I would love to find and repurchase the Corvette.

I have two GTO's I've had for almost 40 years.....a '65 hardtop and a '67 convertible. In 2015, I bought a 1961 Corvette that had sat in an airplane hangar with a bad engine and I brought it back to life. It has old tired paint, but the interior and chrome is nice from being inside in a dry climate. I rebuilt the engine and trans last year and it's a screamer: 383 stroker with the original 270 HP dual quad intake, 4 speed, and 3.36 Positraction. It's very crude and raw compared to the GTO's, but a whole lot of fun to zoom around it. Drove it just two days ago.

I've owned my 67 Vette 427 conv. for 34 years now, and have known the car since 1978. I also have a 69 427 Vette conv. since 1988.
The 69 was in a garage on the Jersey shore when "super storm sandy" hit. The ocean missed flooding the garage by 3 feet coming up the driveway.
Lots of great memories with the 67.

Default 1964 Sting Ray

I had a 1964 Sting Ray Convertible, owned it over 10 years but sold it about 2016. Getting too expensive to work on and I really enjoyed driving my 1967 GTO more!

Two GTO's and a 1975 C3 Convertible. '75 was the last year of the convertible for quite some time. I bought it sight unseen at a Mecum auction, turned out to be a pretty nice car. Factory stock 350 with a whopping 165 hp. Built up a nice Dart block 406 SBC and kept the numbers matching motor.

Looks bone stock except for the 8 quart pan.

Not 165 hp anymore.

This is getting more responses than I had expected, so thanks guys! Our fellow members own some great looking Corvettes. Those are some really fine cars that are being posted up. Tomorrow I'll share a pic or two of my meager offerings.

Ha, small world. I have some parts here from Traco. When I bought my 69Z years ago the guy next door worked at Traco and retired here in Arizona. He had a 69Z at the time and a pile of 67-69 vintage Trans Am racing engine parts from when they were doing engines for the Penske Z/28's. I bought a bunch of it, some of it, as the story goes, was used on the 69 Penske Z that Donohue drove. I have the crankshaft in my Z currently, a pretty trick looking piece.

Traco had quite a shop back then. Back in the early Eighties, I had a ’67 Impala SS427 with a factory 4 speed. I had them do the machine work on the block, and I visited the shop a few times as a result of that. I was pretty impressed with their operation, although by then they were pretty close to being done I think

As a tribute to their shop and what it stood for, I found a few Traco stickers and stuck one them on my Dart small block, as they were well known for hot SBC’s. Every once and while a guy at a car show will look at that sticker and know what it means.
