Isn't the paint on top of head exposed to hot oil going to flake off and flow to all parts of the engine?

a 557 thin saddle engine not good for racing. bt

Really all kinds of things wrong with that ad. You covered the paint inside the engine and the thin wall casting. Add to that:

All casting info ground off heads (what are they? They're pre-'74, whatever they are), rusty bolts, grungy bare aluminum, Chevy orange not even applied carefully/thoroughly. No info whatsoever on parts used for rebuild.

Honestly, if you can't be bothered to properly paint a rebuilt engine and choose to use rusty bolts on the outside, how can anything done inside be trusted? This looks like nothing more than a hack job consisting of spare parts thrown together for the purpose of fleecing someone out of some money.

The paint inside the head is probably Glyptol. Its a sticky oil resistant paint used on electric motors. It makes the oil drain back down into the sump quicker.

If it's actually Glyptal, it'll hold. And the camera flash can make the red appear orange, but this shot looks like a match for the other components.

I'm kinda leaning towards someone seeing Glyptal in an engine and thinking it was paint....so they decided to 'paint' theirs too.... That looks just a little orange for Glyptal to me.

Not as easy as you might think. You'll notice that the front and rear side marker lights are incorporated into the molding. Additionally, there are oval holes in the fenders and studs the rest of the way. Every B-body had those moldings for '69 (except for the Executive wagons, that had fake wood on the sides).

How do I know all of this? I removed the moldings from my '69 Bonneville wagon several years ago. Had to weld up the holes and grind off all of the pins.

Yeah, if that's actually Glyptal I'd die of shock. My money's on the idjit who slapped all this together not even knowing what Glyptal is.

That is the crustiest, crappiest looking "rebuilt" engine I've ever seen. Pretty much an 'F' for effort.

Not really epic, but I'm seeing a skill testing question here...

Red dash looks wrong. I always thought El Camino,s came with 12 bolt rears. Especially SS,s.

Not sure about the dash. The El Camino didn't become an SS until 68, so there's that. But what I'm looking at though is exterior, and prominently visible in that picture. An additional hint, that ElCamino is a 66.
