Better gasket
I'm replacing my intake on my 461. I bought new Fel-Pro gaskets. After removing the older gasket also, a Fel-Pro. I noticed it is a lot stiffer than the new one. They have different part numbers and shape but still cover the same. Would it be wise to buy and use the stiffer gasket?
Thanks, in advance. |

I don't know about stiffer being any better, they do make a few different styles of intake gaskets and some are a bit flimsy in comparison.
I have noticed some different quality issues with Felpro on a more recent intake gasket purchase that caused me to buy a different set from AFR. When the bolt holes were perfectly aligned all the intake ports were shifted over 1/4" !! That's not going to work. |

The quality of the old gasket just seems better. But I'm a novice and really don't know if it matters as compared to someone putting an engine together more frequently.

Most important thing is fit. There are a couple different exhaust crossover iterations and port sizes. Just try to match everything up. Fel pro also has a fancy “Print-o-seal” set that has a bead of silicone around all the ports.
If everything lines up, you should have no issues either way

The FelPro 1233 gasket is a good choice for RAIV sized ports. If these are aluminum heads and a quality manifold they will fit great. If you have standard ports and a cast iron manifold (or an aluminum manifold with ports that don't align all that great) you might check that the intake seals properly against the 1233 gasket.
