Default Dyno Wednesday, guesses?

Hi all,

Taking my 498 to the dyno. It is a Stuska / DEPAC engine dyno.

Have a few tests to do, going to test as is, to check the drive train (and accessories) losses, as it made 512 HP on a mustang chassis dyno.

I am running 1 7/8 headers and have a set of 2" primary's to try.

Also I bought Brian Rocks old cam 263/269 at .050 on a 108lsa, with about .700 lift, so we are going to stick that cam in after to take advantage of the heads a little better, it will be interesting to see how the tripower keeps up.

Heads are 72cc, 2.19 intake valve and 1.77 exhaust. pistons are dished for 10.8 compression. Distributor is MSD ready to run.

Most of the info is in my signature, I am running 1.65 Harland sharps, that measure 1.69 with my valve springs.

So what do you think it will make? Two numbers, one for each cam.

Update you all wednesday!!

No guess, but curious to see comparison between different header sizes. I've got both for my 65 too and wonder hp difference on similar engine.

Best of luck at the dyno! That cam made 740 hp in my 496 with about 15 more cfm up top. We'll see how much difference your top end package is vs. Mine. And that was with the little 1-7/8" Dougs headers.
The tight lsa was no issue either. My current cam is basically a copy of Guido's but 268/278 @ .050" and we kept the 108 lsa. Peak torque was at 4700 rpm and peak power was at 6700.
No better way to see what you have than getting a few pulls on the dyno!

Nice!, Are you going to use the header switch on both cams? What's the current race weight?

If you replace the "tri-strictor" with a proper induction system it can make 700 with the bigger cam. And maybe 650 with the smaller cam.
If your "tri-strictor" intake/carbs are stock I say reduce the hp figures with 60-70 hp.

Is the (Brian Rock) old cam 263/269 at .050 on a 108lsa, a roller or solid? Is it an off the shelf grind or custom?

Darby the weight of the car is 3950, i would like to do the header swap with both cams but not sure if we will have time.

The "tri-strictor" is quite modified, but hopefully we will be trying a northwind as well.

Brian cam is a custom solid roller.

Should be fun, I think I am prepared, already put the other cam in just to degree it, then swapped back, so I don't have to degree it on the dyno, gaskets are fresh so I can pull the valley pan easy...intake gaskets are glued to the heads and trimmed, still nervous though!!!

That is a loaded question, lol. From what I have read of yours it probably isn't to far from yours just done differently. We are very interested in hearing your results. Not many people believe in the old tri-powers and dad loves showing up those crappy four barrel intakes and carbs, lol.

Well it was a interesting day as usual. I will try to keep this short.

As is set up, with tripower and 1 7/8 Dougs with header evacs (they are on my headers) it made a best of 590HP @ 5800 RPM and 618 Tq @ 4200RPM.

Put on the 2" Hooker super comps with no Header evacs and it lost about 5 HP and torque was down more.....didn't expect that! (more reasoning on this below)

Then we swapped the tripower for a Northwind, with a 1" open spacer: Still had the 2" headers on:

IT MADE 635 HP @ 6000 and 626 TQ @ 4700 RPM.

We then tried the 1 7/8 Dougs back on with no other changes,
it made 638 HP @ 6000 and 633 Tq @ 4700. (best of the Day)

So then we tried blocking the header evacs with no other changes, LOST 17HP!! Blow by was causing grief for sure.

SO the header difference might be due to no header evacs on the 2" headers. It would of been a good test to try them with header evacs, just didn't have the set up for it.

We also removed the 1" spacer and just ran the Northwind with no spacer and it lost 10 hp and 10 ftlbs across the board.

Didn't have enough time to try the other cam.... unfortunately.

I was surprised that the tripower wasn't higher....damit, 50 HP is alot to give up....might have to fabricate a tripower intake.
