Pretty much confirms what seems to be the general opinions you hear. Reminds you of the old Fram commercials "Pay me now or pay me later". Probably should be "Pay me now AND pay me later".
Wish he had done a few more brands but I know you can't do them all and put out a reasonable video. But what about OEM brands like AC Delco or Motorcraft. They are probably made by one of the brands he cut apart but I'm not sure which ones.

In my years working for an ACDelco warehouse distributor that also handled Motorcraft and Mopar OE filters as well as WIX and a private label brand (Pronto) of filter - we referred to the Fram filters sold at other places as "the orange can of death".

The Pronto filter was 10 times the quality of the Fram, but several steps short of the WIX or OE filters.

I used to have a case of PF24 AC Delco oil filters that I bought for a great closeout deal at PerformanceYears fifteen years ago or so. They were good. Since I just recently had new bearings and rings put in I have been using Wix because of their good reputation. Just wondering, are the currently available AC Delco oil filters still good quality or are the new ones junk?

The new PF 24's are not junk.

Fram filters are junk.

My go-to is the PF24, and I too bought like 50 of them during a sale, think I paid like $2.75ea plus shipping. They've served me well.

I have about 3 left. They are still available, and will probably get another case, but if I can't find them or in a pinch, will use the WIX, which are readily available.

If you shop the PF24s, you can still get them at about $3.50ea, less if you buy in quantity.

I’m using a K&N filter because it has a hex molded into the bottom that allows me to get a box end wrench in there to tighten as I have clearance issues with exhaust. Solves that problem for me, but after seeing this I am wondering about quality. Any experiences with K&N?

I've run the K&Ns for a while, the filter medium clogs too fast IMO. For me, around 1500-1800 miles I start seeing a drop in psi.

The black ones, which don't have a hex on the bottom actually continue to flow past 3000 miles without the PSI drop.

I know the large Doug's headers are somewhat restrictive for oil filter R&R, but I seem to still be able to get a band filter wrench on there. Only get like an 1/8 of a turn, but it's enough to loosen it so I can finish it with my hand. Tightening is not a problem, since they should only be hand tight anyway.

I came across this video a while ago and it got me worried about a fram-HP2 filter I got in a box of parts from Ken Keefer (pontiacdude).
As the guy in the vid I gutted it and to my surprice it was actually very well made.

This was a white base color can and the productiondate was somewhere in the 1980's.
I remember thinking if he send me a can from the 80's what's the date on the rest of the stuff.

My buddy only used Fram HP2s on his RAV stock car engine with no failures in the 70s. I've used them on my SD for years. But after recently hearing all the problems plus hard to get I switched to NAPA gold. I see the Fram stock filters look like junk. My 2cts.

My buddies and I that did roundy round racing have used Fram HP filters without any problems for years. I never had a problem with their other filters either . I guess I'm just lucky.

The AC Delco's aren't all that great. Motorcraft makes a very good filter. If you cut the two of them apart you can quickly see the difference. AC Delco, from what I've seen cutting them apart don't fair much better than the Frams I've cut apart.

I'll either run a Motorcraft or a Wix/Napa Gold for fairly inexpensive oil filters that are very well made. If you don't mind spending a little more money there are a few better brands.

The filter cutter goes through them in about 10 seconds and doesn't leave a mess of metal shavings everywhere, especially not in a filter you're cutting apart from a running engine to inspect......for metal, lol. Guess it works for his purposes but can't wrap my head around having the tool actually designed to do the job properly, and then leaving the tool on the bench.

Cliff has recommended Baldwin filters, I'm happy with the ones I've used. (Baldwin B39)

Those are pretty good too. Not commonly sold at local stores so not as easy to find.

FL1A and a PF24 have different threads.

I'm guessing he likely has a remote oil filter setup. Most of those aftermarket remote filter deals use the Ford filters.
