Default Craigslist ad: Supposed 48 original mile, barn find, 1979 Trans AM. ( Not mine )

Found while browsing around in the Houston area Craigslist.

I have a 79' trans am that was a barn fine which i just recently purchased. It is brown with 48 miles. Yes 48 miles. It sat in a barn its whole life. Some pieces were stolen off the interior and exterior. It does need work, but it does run and drives. I wanted to restore it, but dont have the time. Complete this car will bring over $20,000 easily. The down side is the car does not have a title, i will give a copy of bill of sale i have and give the buyer a bill of sale. The car has never been registered. Great staright car asking 10000 obo. Call or TXT 281 620 3635. May trade for a completed classic mustang.

I hope after sitting 31 years he didn't fire it up and drive it to that car wash.

The fishy part is the title, but you do see these FBs bought by "collectors" and stored.

Mecum has one coming up with low miles like this one, and I have seen half a dozen other come up for sale last year or so I bet.

Member Dennis Kirban has a friend who has some he is selling on PY somewhere, low miles cars stored improperly.

Any car that sat in a barn in Houston for 31 years with no miles put on it... I'd be worried that it went underwater during one of the many hurricanes...

99 44/100%, but it's difficult to be precise.

The probability of it being stolen is 50/50, but there's only a 10% chance of that.

I'd make the dude go to dmv with me before I'd hand over any money.

You could have any LEO run the vin to check against a national stolen database. It'd be best to do that before even wasting gas money to go look at it.

He says in his ad he'll trade for a restored classic Mustang..... someone should contact him & say they have a nice restored '67 convert. No title but will give a bill of sale with it.

Anyone else take issue with the non-factory tint on the top of the windshield and the Snowflakes missing their center caps and shod with not only the wrong tires, but what appear to be worn out tires?

He did say stolen parts on it so maybe the center caps were stolen too. Dry rot tires could be the case too. Looks like none of the glass is softray tinted. But it's hard to tell even trying to blow up the photo. Tint at the top of the windshield looks the same as what was on my 79 Formula, but mine had the softray glass all around.

If this is a BS sale, he could have rolled the odometer back. Not all that easy but it was doable. A VIN check before looked at is the only way to go. If he'll give out the VIN number.

It is slightly possible it's been stored all thease years but doubtful. I knew of a 79 T/A bought and immediately stored away up in Colebrook, NH back in 79. Tho I've not been back or heard how long it was stored, or if it's still in storage. Dealer said it was moved off the lot into storeage not far away, and would have less than 10 miles on it. Back then I couldn't believe someone would do that, but it looks like quite a few were..... or claimed they were.
