Thumbs down I've got a sarcoma

and it's huge! It's about 20 cm long by 10 cm round.
Some background, 2 years ago I had an endoscopy and my bowel was perforated. I ended up going septic and having multi-organ failure. I was in intensive care for 7 weeks on life support, hospital for 3+ months and has taken me almost this long to get my health back together. My right kidney failed and I lost the vision in my left eye, but I was alive! Last October I had a Whipple surgery where they removed the first third of my small intestine and part of the pancreas because of the polyps in the small colon.
So unusual things going on with my body is nothing new.
My wife commented a couple of weeks ago that the back of my right leg was getting unusally large. I went to the Dr, did a CAT scan and was referred to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa for evaluation.
I have had more CAT scans and an MRI, tomorrow I am having a biopsy of the tumor. The Sarcoma team at Moffitt is one of the best in the country and will determine a plan of treatment probably tomorrow. It will require surgery and radiation treatments and probably Chemo. The order and dosages will be determined once they have staged the tumor. There should be limited loss of function in the leg if the tumor hasn't inpinged on the siatic nerve, they will know that only when the remove it surgically.
Sarcoma's are rare and account for about 1% of new cancer diagnosis a year. There are 70 different types of sarcomas and mine is a dedifferentiated liposarcoma, and looks to be malignant because of the fast rate of growth. My Dr at Moffitt sees about 250 new sarcoma patients a year and is incredibly talented.

So if you would keep us in your prayers for strength, healing, safe travels to and from Moffitt and provisions as we start this next journey of healing, me and my family would appreciate it.

Dang, just as the good car events start happening here too. I am sure I can find a driver to get me to the shows and such and my clutch leg still will work well.

Bill

Wow. Sounds like a lot of tough breaks in the last few years but you seem to be keeping your spirits up and sounds like you are in good hands. Great things to hear when facing cancer.

Good luck and keep us all posted!!!

Modern medicine can and does wonderful things. God has seen to it. He has also sent you to a good doctor.
You are on my prayer list.

Thumbs up

We know you're a pretty tough bird since you've survived a Whipple procedure, so this should turn out OK. Looks from the MRI slide like the tumor is pretty encapsulated and hasn't impinged on the artery or bone. This bodes well, especially in view of the fact that your physicians seem quite talented.

Good luck to you and warm thoughts sent your way.

Bill, may an unfair share of the seasons' good spirits and prayers be channeled to you and your family. Best wishes for the most favourable outcome possible.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers, they truly mean a lot.
They did a biopsy on my leg yesterday. They numbed the leg and put in a 1/4" diameter or so "conduit" the Dr called it and then put in a needle and gathered 4 samples for pathology.
My leg is sore but not too bad.
I am waiting to hear from the sarcoma team probably today to find out what the plan of treatment will be.
