Default Went Street Racing Tonight.

After a bunch of car shows today some of the guy's wanted to do some
Racing so of we went to the local spot, Man been a couple years but
Had a blast. I ran a 67-Dart 340 CI with a 391 gear against my 64-Tempest.
I won by about 4-car lengths, Both of us were running street tires so it
Was a pedal fest. 1/4 mile he got out on me but in 3rd gear when I
Finaly hooked up I drove around him. It was fun for the both of us.
My car is a 406ci Saginaw 4-speed with a 3:50 first gear and 3:31 12 bolt posi
Rear gear. Next some drag radials and granny shift so I don't break the tranny.

Can't wait to do a little of that! I just wonder how my 406, 670 headed firebird will do against a 396 chevy camaro, even though he prolly wouldn't line em up. Haha

Great stuff!!!

Early yesterday morning I raced an Audi R8 on Route 25 here in town. We pulled up side by side to the stop sign at the end where he was turning & both of us were smiling.

Kinda un cool around here these days.

Back in the day, if I was at least even in 1`st gear, the race was mine. Most of the time, I was behind in 1`st or 2`nd. Would make the pass at the top of 2`nd and finish the hurt in 3`rd. Pontiac top end.

I remembered why I built this car and I'm not going to put sticky's
On it because it's supposed to be a fun driving show off car.
And sticky tires will only destroy the tranny (Again).
I've got other cars for the serious racing (Street Or Track).
But the ole 64-Tempest sure surprized A lot of people last night.
I'll try and get a pic of it up in A short future. Shore was fun.

I've been putting in a few street miles lately and am pretty impressed with my M/T et streets, from a stand still I can blow them off..but at about 10 mph and floor it they pretty well hook up...I'm not really into any street racing...but just in case I know what the car will do..This in a 80 Trans Am ,slightly lightened front end,90/10 50/50 shocks..

Friday night I went to Texas World Speedway in Bryan College Station. Some local shops and car clubs have put together a drag racing area on the pit road. It is 1/8th mile arm drop and no timing equipment. Surface is old asphalt and about as slick as you can imagine. I tried water and VHT burnouts with no help. A few old drag cars and bracket cars, but mostly newer mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes. Biggest percentage of cars there were on drag radials and slicks. It was much like street racing. Get in line and pick someone to run. Must have made 10 passes. Here is a video of first pass while still light out.

working on getting a better quality video. Did not realize it was so rough! Paul...these solid roller lifters have made this thing a beast!! I ran a S10 drag truck with open headers and we were side by side until I pulled a car on him in third gear. I could not hear my car and God knows where I shifted into third. It flipped the Alt belt upside down on that pass. First time for this car to flip a belt.

I'm glad the solid lifters are working good for you. Pretty soon you're going to have that thing running as fast as your 69 but more street friendly.
Do you think you will ever get the itch to put a bottle on the Firebird?

Paul....think about it a lot. Sometime in late October, a friend is going to rent Baytown track and a select group of friends are going to race heads up and see who has fastest car. Will be Zo6's, a Hellcat, and no telling what else. Really don't want to show up with nitrous even though there will be many power adders there. Will be more impressive to win on motor only. I have a Meziere elect water pump I may install with a pick a part elec fan to free a few ponies and aid in cool down after passes. Think I'll have enough.

Yeah, don't sweat it! My old buddy had a 69 Nova with a well built 396. I had my thrown together 400 with a lot of my old 428 parts in it[cam, lifters, #16 heads, T-chain]. We raced a few times. Sometimes even when I had passengers in my car. He would hang close to me for a while, but could never beat me. I would slowly start pulling away from him in 3'rd, and 4'th gears. He never even got me out of the hole! Cubic inch for cubic inch, BB Chevys got nuttin' on our old Pontiacs!

68blackbird.....it was a good time. Practice up on your starts on slick surface and come on out to the next one. Search TWSdrags for next date.

The number of cars on the road around Acadiana has increased ten fold since I left for the Army in 1985........Now a days some idiot is always pulling out in front of you looking to get hit so they can File Suit!
