Did get a chance to do a little over this weekend, even with work being as busy as it has.

Got the bumper hung, again! It took a 1/8" shim on the one side to make it right, no biggie. One thing I did when I removed the previous bumper was make sure the brackets weren't disturbed, and that helps get close, just bolt them up to the new bumper and start from there.

Got started on some dynamat too, mainly because I needed to clean the area I was storing it at! The floor was POR-15'd back in like 1993/94, which I'm sure helped save it. A quick wipe down with acetone and it was ready.

Mocked up the amp board and the speaker deck, looks like I'm going to have to shuffle the caps around, the enclosures make contact. So guess I'll be re-arranging the amps, wires, and caps, need to figure something out there. Dang.

As soon as I get my tax return, I'll get cranking on this, it's just been crazy for me lately...

Sunny and in the high 60s/low 70s for the last 3 days, spent all of it in the garage.

So picking up where I left off, installing the rear desk/enclosures/amp board.

The original setup I made had issues with the amps and caps, since the enclosures were too close to the board. Shuffling that around, test fitting, removing, shuffling, test fittings, uhg! But finally got it figured out.

Had to move the amps off to the sides of the enclosures, and mount the caps on the enclosures themselves, there was just plain not enough room. It's not as pretty as it was before, but most of it is hidden behind the enclosures anyway.

Also had to drop the amp board down slightly, and had to trim a relief into the bottom to clear the tank vent hump. The edge of the enclosure board/rear deck actually rests on the top of the amp board, which helps support it. Since I used thicker board (MDF), I needed more room, like a 1/3".

I have a few connections still to make, the ones going to the caps, but should be a fairly quick & easy task.

@ time spent this past weekend = 22 hrs

Busted Knuckle Physical Damage Score: (1-5 scale)
* Nice knot on head from banging it on the exposed inner roof (again) - 2
* Sharp metal lesions from test fittings- 2
* Minor random abrasions, knees - 1
* TOTAL Score - 5

Difficulty Scale of Work Performed: (0-10 scale)

Amp board rearrange - 3

Ordered the Billet Specialties Tru-Trac serpentine setup, should see that this week.

Should have my new cam here shortly too, pulled the trigger on the VooDoo HYD roller 243/251 grind, will have that installed probably next weekend.

Sent my core off for the new dashpad, should have that in about 2 weeks.

Am getting all the homework done on the Vintage Air setup, will be able to order that this week.

And about to order the EFI ECU, power harness, main harness, and injector harness, will probably be next week.

Then it's basically interior, and a few odds & ends. Hopefully!

Quick update, got the cam installed and degreed. Trying to dial it in to a recommended 104 ICL took going thru all the keyways at least twice, and without going to offset keys, ended up living with 105. A little stretch should bring it closer, oh well.

Also got the Billet Specialties serpentine setup installed, and have to say, wow. It looks good. Instructions were spot on, quality of parts is excellent, and had no issues to speak of on the install.

Well, one issue, the bolts supplied for the balancer pulley were coarse thread, and I required fine thread bolts. Not a big deal, should have those in the next day or so. Might be because I'm using an aftermarket balancer, been so long since I've seen a OE one, not sure what thread they are!

Should have my lifters and injectors in the next few days, will be able to bolt on the intake, if it ever comes in! The Edelbrock Victor EFI is backordered from the manufacturer, was supposed to ship on the 24th, will have to call for that.

My dash came in, and it looks great for a '2nd'. There's one minor spot on a curve that has a slight wave in it, and that's all I could find. And that is along the very bottom, no one will ever see it. It doesn't really show up in pics, but will post some later when I get to that part of the build.

Maybe one of the pro engine builders will chime in but, I'm thinking chain stretch will get your farther away from 104 more like 106, 107 if set at 105. I've been wrong before.

Sorry for being slow to post updates, things have been crazy lately.

So have been bouncing around on areas of the project, due to available parts on hand. having to order parts, work, etc. Have been working on the dash, dash harness, Vintage Air evap box mounting, duct work, and the intake.

Here's some pics of the intake, which is almost done, just need to finish the injector harness.

In the one pic, you can see the small tab brackets that was used to retain the injector harnesses. I purchased the 'unterminated' injector harness, and used expandable tubing as the cover. Against the powder coated fuel rails, the harnesses almost disappear, probably have to zoom in to actually see them.

In that same pic, you can see the one vacuum fitting that was installed, with a 90 degree on it, pointing down, which I will use aluminum fuel line and AN nuts to run under the intake, out the back, and will attach to the brake booster with a short rubber hose.

There's a duplicate fitting and 90 degree on the opposite side, which I will do the same for the PCV feed in the valley.

The pic of the bottom of the intake shows the OE type harness retainers I attached which will be used to route the forward engine harness for the sensors, alt, and drive by wire connections. Those too I will use the braided loom to cover, probably have a retainer on the thermostat housing for a portion of the harness that is to the passenger side of the intake.

That front shot of the intake shows the IAT sensor on the bottom of the elbow, the vacuum port in the intake for the MAP, the MAP sensor mounting, the DRW throttle body, and hose routing.

I will use the black plastic emissions hose for the MAP vacuum source, which can be formed with a heat gun. You can see the 90 degree vacuum fittings on both the MAP and the feed where the line will go, and I will form it into kind of a 'Z' shape.

You can also see in some of the shots how the intake needed to be trimmed on the runners, to clear the valley and the valve covers.

Lots going on here, and have like 60+ hours in it, at least. There was a lot of on-off-on-off test fitting, trim-check-trim-check, and changing directions because of roadblocks.

I am almost done with the dash and dash harness, will post some pics of that shortly. I have like 100 hours in that thing, required a ton of test fitting, removal, redesign, etc. Uhg.

In order to mock up and mod the main ECU wiring harness, I had to mount the ECU, which I did over the weekend. I used the same location as I did on the 442, on the firewall, driver's side, inboard of the fender, for the most part.

I made a mount plate, relieved the pinch weld for a section, and mounted the plate to the firewall. (after about 30 attempts of trying to choose the prime location!). I mocked up the inner wheelhouse, and checked for clearance of the ECU connectors. I gave just about every area about 1" clearance to allow for body/panel/whatever movement.

I should have the main harness done in the next day or so. Since it's drive by wire, I can remove the IAC and TPS wires, and am removing other wires that will not be used, trimming it down to route it easier.

Will get some pics posted once it's done...

I have been soooo bad about updating this thread, but honestly, life has just gotten in the way. I have though in spurts been able to get some done on the car, and will give the thread at least a couple updates to whet appetites.

Fuel system. Tanks Inc EFI tank, Walbro 400lph in tank pump, are the key components. I ran hard lines as much as I could, feed and return on the firewall back to the filter, where it transitions to the frame, AN lines (Russell Pro Classic black braid), to a Holley 10m EFI filter, back to hard lines over the rear on the pass side, then tot he tank transition again with AN lines.

I used AN bulkhead fittings with fabbed brackets to do transitions.

I also ran a hard line for the heater run from the back of the pass head, where the lines are hidden behind the fender, passing thru a bulkhead connector where the blower motor used to be.

Here's a few pics...

Got much of the engine compartment done, have the short fuel line runs to the intake/regulator, radiator top plate, engine harness, and some other minor stuff left.

Had to make a bracket for the type 2 PS pump reservoir, turned out pretty nice.

Finished the dash harness, and installed the dash. Have the column and steering wheel in too, but this pic is from before I had that in.

I have a port for a USB drive or phone charging that is next to the lighter, has an aux plug too. On the other side of the lighter, with a cap, is a USB port for the ECU.

You can see the fuel gauge calibration button next to that.

On the other side of the column, you can see an LED dimmer knob next to the headlight switch.

A problem area for leaks is the lower rear corners of the rear glass, and, when installing the corner moldings, discovered they lap over into the glass channel. So, to prevent contact and clearance it, I trimmed them.

Was assembling the door panels, and had some billet specialties handles, but don't care for them, and am going back to the original types. The opening handle is too close to the panel for my big hands, so they are not very comfortable.

(the arm rest looks crooked in the pic, but it's an optical illusion)

The PY Online Forums is the largest online gathering of Pontiac enthusiasts anywhere in the world.
