Eric, didn't you buy the car from James who has an NOS one? I thought the car came with a used one too?

Default cassette

No nos,,, I bought a used unit, but not going to use, bad shape.
The complete, unit was in car when, James, orig bought, but guy pulled it out on him...Unfortunately, said, he didn't know what happened to it.
Then it surfaces on ebay.
So I need one, on the pedestal..

Guilty as charged, LOL.

I believe the pedestals were welded to the floorboards. There was a plastic pedestal cover that could be removed and replaced, but the metal pedestal is welded in and originally the carpet was cut around it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Did you notice that I didn't incriminate you?...

The mounting bracket WAS factory spotwelded to the floor...just like the front and rear console mounts...although....I believe you could get either OR but not BOTH rear console and cassette deck in the same car....

BTW.....I have a new truck........Wanna RACE........?

It is TOTALLY awkward......AND out of place.......just like the saddle interior in a white T/A.....

and prolly the reasons why I bought it....it was on the invoice....and still works.....just like a toaster....push the buttion and the carriage pops up.......put in the tape and push the carriage down.....and PRESTO....it plays....

This one has the original Unitized distributor in it and it still WORKS.......

I sold my car that came with the Delco 4-track cassette deck but it was Van Nuys 4 speed A/C, AM/FM Stereo, front console, cassette, tilt, rear seat belt shoulder harnesses, deluxe black interior, rear window heating grid (not the blower), custom trim, 80 AMP alt, lots of options. Original sheetmetal, build sheet. Another one of a kind.

Default cassette player

my 1972 assembly manual calls for "canceled" on the cassette deck..2MANY, was yours factory or dealer installed?...was 8 track & a cassette possible?...in the early 80's the rear compartment of my 76 T/A served as my lounge and a cassette player(fortunately I had the factory 8-track) would have been a deal breaker

Mine was factory installed........available as an RPO....in 71-72......AND as an over the parts counter accessory in 73 and 74...

Only one tape system was offered...either or....

A radio was required....mine came with AM only......and sound separation was front to back...just like the 8 track....only ONE 6x 9... in the back deck...

Just to add a bit more, you couldn't get both 4-track (cassette) and 8-track tape players in the same order. If you didn't order a console then the cassette would fit up under the dash on a pedestal similar to the 8-track. But, if you ordered a console then the cassette was too tall to sit in the map pocket area of the console like the 8-track does so it moved to behind the console. In that position then it wasn't available with the rear seat console, as 2Many pointed out earlier.

I've got some NOS of the old electronic parts for these 4-tracks.

Just an FYI......a 4 track is a completely different animal than a cassette...

THey were the predecessor to the 8 track....with NO pinch roller in the cartridge.

It was in the actual player and had to be manually engaged...

I've got some here....will post pics if I can find them....

Default 4 TRACK ????

so that is not a traditional cassette(photo of unit in your 72) that we all know & love?...please explain more as I am not understanding this 4/8 track vs cassette thing, thanks!....I like a 4-speed no console look but I suppose you could get an 8-track or as TA455HO has stated a cassette mounted...really crazy...but I like that some still have this in there cars or pursue to make it correct...thankfully I have an auto with a map pocket (repop with chrome trim)...but I still got the original AM/FM stereo radio (but my repop rear speaker does not work so the radio needs to get sent out)...the things we do for 40+ year old tech...5o years from now the CD will be nostalgic
