Craigslist '69
Seller claims one owner and it looks it. Love the red, white and blue color combo.

This car was pretty loaded. A/C, Reclining seats, Rally gauge. Special ordered with the red interior and blue top. Over $4500 out the door. That's GTO money. Not sure if you can zoom in on it in this format. I'm posting this with my phone.

Beautiful car. White over red interior cars are a personal favorite.

I don't know what all came standard on the LeMans but looking at that dealers list it looks like he paid over $500 in options. Notice Tilt Wheel, AM/FM radio among others.
I wouldn't have walked into a dealership and ordered a red, white and blue car but for me, looking at it 55 years later as a 1960s car, it's beyond cool.

I also dig the patriotic red, white and blue color scheme. How about Warwick blue, red guts and white top, would that work?
Price isn’t entirely out of line, either, I would think. Also wondering if north will post soon about a new addition to his Wide Track squad… |

I agree on the price. It looks like a one of a kind to me especially with all of the documentation and originality. I think it's great that it has not been cloned.

Wonder if it’s a 350 HO?

I didn't see it on the dealer's invoice. I'm not great at reading that stuff though. If you look at the pic I posted on the actual ad, you can enlarge it and read most of it. There's a long list of otions. Just noticed the Ride and Handling option, I don't know what 'Decor Group' is. Remote mirror. Just says 'V8 Engine' so, doubt it's an HO.
It's almost like he wanted a GTO without the insurance penalty and some folks may not have liked the endura, hood scoops and all that stuff.

Paid too much but that car will be heading my way next week. Had a fellow member put eyes on the car last week, super sweet car. Looks and drives like it has half the miles it actually does. 100% original paint, interior, top and drivetrain.
Interestingly (I got closeups of the invoice and window sticker) the original owner (who just sold it this year to the dealer) traded a brand new 69 Karmann Ghia. When asked why he traded in a new car a month after he bought it, “have you ever driven a Karmann Ghia?”. Also interesting is he was a mechanic at the dealership he bought the car from. 27 options from the factory but not loaded in the traditional sense (no pw, locks or seat etc) and just the 2bbl 350 but a really interesting choice of options like reclining seat, Y96 ride and handling, STT, rally wheels, rally gauges, spare tire cover and hood-trunk lights. Plan is to leave it be other than to lose the hitch and towing stuff including the cargo coils in back. AC was still blowing cold but clutch is seized, I’ll change it out so I can run it with a belt but with my collection size and short New England summers I gave up trying to keep AC working on all those barely driven cars. Hopefully I’ll get it by the 4th as it will be well suited to “showing the colors”!

In case anyone is curious, here are readable versions of the dealer invoice and window sticker.

Why am I not surprised, north?
What an awesome score. Price almost becomes irrelevant on such original vehicles. |

That's awesome. I'm glad someone got it who appreciates what it is.

I think I’ll call her Old Glory! Imagine trying to order a car with those colors today, even back then it probably called for a sizable deposit. Dealer didn’t want to get stuck with that oddball on the lot!!

Wow North! Congratulations! Truely an amazing survivor! Looking at the window sticker, it appears to have the cost for the TH350 trans, but didn't A/C V8 A-bodies come with the TH400 trans in '69? Curious what is in your new Lemans. My Custom S's TH400 has a cost of $227.04 vs. $205.92 on your docs. I don't see STT on the window sticker or the dealer invoice, except for "DIFF" after WHEELS - RALLY II...is that a boo-boo on the window sticker for the STT?
Great Car! Looking forward to seeing more pictures and stories about the Lemans...love it! Dennis |

My mixup about STT, thinking about another car.
For most of 69 when you ordered a 350 2bbl with AC and turbo hydramatic on an A or F body you got the M40 TH400 instead of the M38 TH350 but they billed you the M38 price. Not sure why all this happened, was it because the AC took the car weight higher than what they thought was a safe limit for M38 or was it simply some way to manage manufacturing capacity constraints on the then brand new transmission? As for why they billed the M40 in those applications at the price of the M38 who knows? Perhaps they didn’t want to de incentivize people ordering AC or perhaps they thought it would only be temporary. My 4 door hardtop LeMans is the same in that it has the 2 bbl and AC with an M40 billed at the M38 price. Interestingly my 69 LeMans wagon also has the 2bbl and AC but it has a M38. Perhaps it’s because the car was built in august 69 and by then they had dropped that application for the M40? That wagon also has some 70 type bits on it like aluminum (rather than stainless) window moldings and one of the rocker moldings is aluminum and the other is stainless (but both are 68-69 spec in that they have the tapered front point to follow the 68-9 fender contour. Also interesting is that wagon was also built with a Chevy 10 bolt diff rather than the BOP. Apparently A body wagons all used this diff in 1970 and I guess this late car was built with a 70 spec drivetrain in some respects. (Engine is a normal 69 assembly though).
