Default 1969 Ram Air IV race car on the cover car HPP

My car, pictures were taken at the GTOAA Nationals last summer at Portland International Raceway.

IV, 4 speed, 4.33, radio delete car, original WW engine, was able to save alot of the born with paint, top of the fenders, roof, deck lid, door jambs, inside trunk, original stripe and the paint upwards, 1/2 the quarter panels.

No rust anywhere repaint of the hood, nose, valance, spoiler, and the sides of the car in lacquer as to match finish and blended.

Interior is all original including carpet, seats, headliner, dash, door panels, all rubber and weatherstripping near nos with no cracks or any sign of wear. Package tray and radio delete plate are only items replaced.

Rear end is the correct coded 4.33 came from Don on this board. A super low miles near perfect item I bought way before I got the IV Judge that I paid a mint for. But I am sure glad I had it when this car came available!

A scrubbing with hot water, soap and good brush took off the light coating of high desert crud revealing factory overspray with virtually no rust.

Car spent it's entire life in Yakima WA. which gets only about 6 to 8 inches of rain a year and a good portion is snow.

I am currently restoring my customers 69 Verdoro Green GTO Judge and just shot the Verdoro green overspray on the underbelly of that car just today

Great article and awesome car. Congrats Richard! I remember a thread on the car when it first showed up - there were some pics of it in storage and I remember the one with the salesman standing next to it as well. Nice to see it get some good coverage in HPP.

Thanks to everyone! I see your 73 SD in the same issue, truly amazing car.

I have an early Bucaneer red 73 SD that's being painted, (restored) and motor is in the machine shop (Cope Bros. same family who hopped up the car back in the day) if I can get it to 80% of yours I will be happy!

Great story behind that car too, running tax free cigarettes (illegal) while the feds were chasing the SD. The firechicken had one of the first personal plates in WA. ST. He put it on it to taunt the feds ''RABBIT''

Robert Satiacum (Chief of the Pyullaup Indians) was Smokey and the Bandit before their was a movie. He took this car to Cope Bros. Racing same blood line as Nascar Cope's and had an extra 100 HP added.

This all happen around 75-76 when the feds had cars with 185hp max in their pursuit vehicles, they couldn't touch him in that car.

They finally convicted him of Racketeering and sentenced him to 105 years in Federal Prison and seized all personal assets but they didn't get the Bird!

Right before the verdict he put it in his best friend name and hid it away, but man they wanted that car they couldn't catch in the worst way!

Robert fled to Canada and he eventually died their, the car stayed hidden with 38k all these years until I bought it.

Anyway once I get her done it would make a great story for a magazine too!

Richard:
Just read the article this morning. Great car and story!

That the original block survived those first few racing years is just amazing.

Richard, It was good to finally see this car in person at the National in Portland last July. I had heard about the car through K. Pettyjohn who is a good friend of Mike's many years ago. Thanks to Mike's persistence through the years to finally purchase your rare old Judge. Much thanks to you Richard for bringing this car back to its near original state of existence. Great job!

It is great how the history of the car is known as well as how the engine passed from owner to owner and was finally put back in the Judge.

I even tried to get my wife to read it, but only got her to look at the pictures.
