5/16 to AN -6 Trans Cooler Line Adapter Info
I know I've posted this somewhere before, but since the change of hands of Aeroquip Hydraulics, I figured I would repost, mostly due to part number changes.
If you ever want to run 5/16 trans cooler lines and mate with external coolers, etc, going from steel or stainless steel prebent lines to AN -6 is a challenge. You can't use aluminum compression fittings on steel lines, they will fail. And I have yet to find an adapter that goes from the OE hard line ends to AN. Here is the items that I use, which work great, with a source and new part numbers: FC2875-05S Aeroquip by Danfoss | Versil-Flare Flareless Tube Nut Adapter | -05 Size | Steel https://hosewarehouse.com/products/f...11765935374372 FF9605-05S Aeroquip by Danfoss | Versil-Flare Flareless Tube Ferrule | -05 Size | Steel https://hosewarehouse.com/products/f...11765501919268 FBM2755 (FCM2755) Eaton Aeroquip® -06 Male AN x -05 Male AN Union Reducer Straight Adapter - Steel https://hosewarehouse.com/products/f...36091466285221 There may be other solutions and/or sources, if you have that info, please share. .

I did find these, which may work well too, but I have never tried them, and don't know the quality:
https://kmotorperformance.com/shop/h...ude-6an-short/ That listing doesn't list the inlet side size, BUT, the 'long' style for the same applications DOES list the line as 5/16. .

Well, you would have to use PTFE for trans lines, the heat & fluid could break down with ATF, that's the big problem. The PSI is low, that's not a problem.
PTFE is not very flexible, so... I currently have about a 3" section of 'regular' AN hose (Russell Pro) and the end is weeping a little where the hose meets the fitting, and it's only been a short period of run time. You really need to run as much hard line as possible, it's just plain safer. ATF is flammable, and where it meets the trans is high heat, especially with header. You don't want any kind of leak there. .

If you're going to a 4L80e, they do make banjo fittings for the trans side, which is a good thing.
They probably make them for TH400s too, but I haven't looked. https://www.ebay.com/itm/28484860235...CABEgJcMvD_BwE The make the banjo ones without the extension too, depending on the model of trans, you may need them. .

If you're running a TH400, you can just use regular pre-bent lines, and use an adapter at the other end for a cooler. The out line (to cooler) from the trans can go right into the radiator, can use an AN adapter in the out line from radiator, go to an external cooler (AN), out of the cooler (AN), and to an adpater (AN to hard line 5/16) going to the trans (Hard line).
I ran late 90s truck hard lines for my 4L80e, and chopped the ends off, added adapters. Here's a pic to give you an idea: The out line / into radiator line end is just laying on the core support in this pic, the radiator hadn't been installed yet. .

The lines in the front are regular AN hose too, and the Pro lines are rated for a bunch of diff fuels, even nitro, so they 'might' be ok, they are not leaking (yet), and are not in an area that will see a lot of movement.
The short one I have by the trans might be leaking because the line is short, and is seeing a lot of movement, but either way, I need to redo the line on the trans side. Couple more pics. The one is how I originally had it, but movement made the one compression line leak, and I couldn't put another compression fitting on without cutting it off, and it would have been too short. So I added a short section of hose. I will see if I can find a pic. .

I ran them to be as far away from the headers as possible, running up & over the wheel well on a 2nd gen bird, have seen them tucked behind the fender as they go over the wheel well too. Where they connect to the trans they do cross over the bottom collector area but i wrap them with heat wrap for added protection from heat & always carry a fire extinguisher in the car for any possible problems with ATF, fuel or electrical. |

Yeah, you can get lucky, but luck has eluded me over the years, and I just won't take the chance.
OEs for AN hose all say to monitor and change after 7 years, take that into consideration too. It only take once, and you can't always put it out with a small extinguisher. For me, I will try to do as much hard line as possible. I see people doing fuel lines full length to tank, do as you please, but it's not the safest. .
