My Heddman 1-3/4" came back from Moore coatings...sweet. I'm checking my exhaust gasket, felpro #1424 to the heads....the port size of this gasket is too big! Port size on #16's measures 1.75" high x 1.13" wide. Checked the gasket to my header and falls outside the machined weld sealing surfice.
What is the best exhaust flange gasket to use with #16 heads stock port opening heddman 1-3/4" headers?
Mr. Gasket #550?

I've used the Fel-pro's with D's & 1&3/4 Hedman headers with no problems.

Same gasket & header here too on some #62 d ports. No issues, no leaks.

Scott,
Why did they make the port size bigger on the gasket than the port size on the head?
Seams to me it leak like a seive. Anyone else shed some light on this?

Here's a couple of pics of a 1424 sitting on an old #62 D port I have laying around in the garage. Does your's look like this?

I have another set of #62s on my bird with the same hedman header and they don't leak. Maybe you got some different kind of gasket(?)

MikeB...
Yes they look like your pics. Over sized for the port. Mr Gaskets are closer to the port size, What gives why wouldn't Felpro make a gasket that matches the port size?

I installed a set this week and like the fact that they're a little larger. There's no chance that the gasket will block any of the exhaust flow. With casting irregularities it makes more sense to open up the holes a little.
