I'm not going to waste to time to walk over to the auction. There will be WAY too many people there. I'd like to bid on the K5 Blazer, but the starting bid will be more than I'd pay for it.
I went to one auction here locally a while back and people where just bidding STOOPID money on junk. The big-ticket items went last, so we had to stand outside for over 3 hours while they went down some tables full of stuff that should have been scrapped. They'd hold up a rusty screwdriver and try to get a dollar for it, then a hammer, pair of scissors, etc. It was REDICUOUS! .........

Bear in mind at estate auctions their job is to get every last dollar they can for the remaining family, so it can get a bit tedious.

I've NEVER found a scream-in deal at an auction. Mostly just junk sales with a few nice high ticket items to draw your interest. There are simply WAY too many people these days willing to pay too much for stuff so I'm not going to waste half a day of my life I'll never get back just to watch the sale.
I would like to have either one of the Blazers, especially the K5, but the bidding will probably start around $30,000 or so I go up from there......

Their secrets died with them. There was no other possible outcome for those two. I've been carrying at least one side-arm and an AR-15 with two 30 round mags on the side-by-side when I go out and about on my property. Now that they cleaned up the neighborhood a bit I put the AR-15 back in the gun safe.
I'm also looking forward to not having at least one plug in every tire on my vehicles unless someone else decides to dump a 50 pound box of sheet rock screws in the road couple of times a year. Thankfully they have no relatives to come in and take things over. I suppose they will be auctioning off all the land and buildings after the mom passes. Word on the street is that she doesn't have much time left. They sold the Propane/Bottle Gas business a couple weeks ago as it was going under, or at least that's the rumor. Now the vehicle/equipment sale, maybe a gun auction next. There is supposed to be 2100 firearms in that deal someplace, and many of them were "high end" shotguns and bolt action hunting rifles from what I've been told. Personally I don't want any of it as I have everything I want in my life at this point and now that I'm retired I have the time to enjoy some of it!.........

I have antique porcelain, nippon, depression glass, etc. We saved when we bought our first house. I had a auctioneer(we had an auction when bought the house, these are the remaining items we saved) come in to appraise the articles. About 20 boxes. He said they are not in demand now. After my wifes passing I've been thinking of trying to sell them.

We had over a dozen cub cadets at this time last year. Anything from a 122 to a 1650. Down to four, and soon that will be 2. Can't keep them all.

Well...
The "brand new" 1989 Blazer fetched $125k plus 10% buyers fee. The Cub Cadet 782D diesel garden tractor fetched $2500 plus 10%. This is about right in todays market. The 1970 Chevelle 454 fetched $50k plus 10%.

In 2022, I went from four to eight Cubs. I'm always looking for derelict machines for parts or restoration.

A lot of the D600 and larger 3 cylinder Kubota diesel engines found duty on reefer units. They were a 5000 hour engine. Mine has just over a 1000 hours, and it's very healthy still.

I did NOT attend the auction. Nothing I wanted that bad or willing to pay way too much for anyhow. A good friend of mine went and told me that every single item he was remotely interested in brought "stupid money".
Personally I wouldn't give anyone still living who was related to or associated with those two dipchits one cent of my hard earned money for the items they hoarded for so many years. Just the principle of things. They kept this part of the County at bay for decades with all their antics then chalked up another "win" after their death. What should have happened is that the residents of our County should have boycotted the auction and refused to bid on anything.........FWIW......

Cliff, I cant find anything wrong with your statement. I think I would have felt the same way.
Auctions are funny, go to one and its stupid money on the low side, go to another and its stupid money on the high side. Go figure. I never prepare properly. When I am in the buying mode it seems things are ridiculous. Then I went to an auction about 2 miles from my house 5 or 6 years ago. The guy had a large commercial auction business and had a hobby of collecting cars. He decided he wanted to get into the car auction business as well and had his own. There were about 50 cars listed. I figured they were all going to be high prices so I didnt bother to register. Most of the cars, and there were some good ones sold for pennies on the dollar! One and only car auction he had!! |
