Power steering whine after new pump install
I recently installed a new power steering pump on my 1970 GTO. There is a very audible whine, but the fluid level is up and the fluid is clear. Do these things need to be primed/purged? I recently replaced the power steering pump on my 72 Cheyenne and it did the same thung, but the whine eventually went away. Here is how the pum is oriented.

How long have you run it?
After install you are supposed to have weight off front tires, turn steer wheel from lock to lock to bleed out air. If you've done this, and still have noise, get some Lucas power steering leak stop/conditioner, put about half of reservoir capacity in it, see where that takes you.

regulator
My replacement pump made a whine as well. there is a special regulator
behind large nut that high pressure hose connects too. I swapped that regulator from my old one to the new one and whine went away. Summit sells a kit with shims which will set pressure output from pump. basically the replacement was over pressurizing the system. I actually added shims from kit to reduce pressure which gave a better feel for the steering. it originally felt too over assisted. kinda like driving on ice. Gerry

I have run it less than an hour. I will have to look into the additive and shims.
