71 Lemans 350 intake question
Will an intake manifold from a 1966 Bonneville fit on a 71 350 2 bbl Lemans engine? I believe it has a Carter 4bbl.
Also will the Carter carb work with the existing linkages etc.? |

No. ‘69 and up use a different intake than the earlier engines.

Shoot that's too bad someone was going to give me it for free. So it physically won't fit, or is it more a configuration thing?

Not so fast now…..
1965 and later intakes all interchange onto 1965 and later engines. It’s the 1964 and earlier intakes that are configured differently where they mate up to the heads. There was a minor design change in 1972 concerning the exhaust heat crossover but it doesn’t apply in your case. The 1966 intake is a direct fit to your 1971 engine, however the accelerator cable pivot will have to perhaps be messed with a little but chances are good that you can hook it up to the carb with minimal hassle. You might need a 1966 4-barrel cable bracket but the 1971 2-barrel bracket may work. Fuel line is going to have to be adapted but that’s really no big deal.

B man is correct, it will bolt right on fine and will be a bit of a power improvement over the 71 2 bbl set up, assuming you have a AFB carb in good shape.
Another linkage issue is that the Bonnie had a TB400 trans which throttle down shifted by a switch on the top of the gas pedal, your 71 has a down shift cable. If it does not matter to you you can just down shift manually and not even use the cable, but the cable then must be kept restrained out all the way position as if it WAS hooked up to the carb. If this is not done harm will be done to the trans.

Hey, I have a couple of AFB intakes. One is flat the other has a little rise to it.
Are those the 2 basic types or is there more ? |

Maybe one is `64 and earlier and the other is `65 and up?

Question is will the heat riser line up or leak?

Heat riser should be good. `72 and up is a change. The heads will use peanut plugs when that change happened.

Isn't there a fel pro intake gasket with an insert that eliminates the heat riser issue?

Yes and it burns thru eventually, but if its a seasonal car it should last years, but his intended swap is a bolt on.

Steve25, the one on mine is a Rochester 2bbl, will the Carter 4bbl fit with no linkage issues?

it's a 3 spd auto with a 2 bbl 350 so I would guess it's either a T350 or a T400?

Sure the 1967 and up Quadrajet intakes are better but that’s beside the point of this thread. He’s getting a 1966 AFB intake and carb for free (that you told him would not fit) and that’s still a very nice improvement over his current 2-barrel setup.
Here’s a nice 1965 389 build with ported #76 heads and a stock 1965 AFB intake: https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=836191 It made 400 hp so most definitely that freebie 1966 4-barrel setup will more than satisfy the needs of his stock 350, plus it will bolt right on.

Most likely a TH350, look for the kickdown cable attached to the carburetor linkage.
