Available as RPO MY6/MY0, it is a New Process A833 MOPAR trans with third gear set 1:1 and 4th gear changed to a .73:1 overdrive. They accomplished this by flipping one of the shift links so that third gear on the shifter actuates fourth gear in the trans and fourth gear is actually third (!). The shifter is a factory Hurst unit. I knew when I saw that flat stick that I had to have one, so I ordered the (fuel injected) V6 with this trans. I kept checking to see when it was going to be built so that I could be there. Things were going along swimmingly until I checked and found out my truck had been placed on "Stop Order". When I found the right person and asked why he said "Hurst is being bought out by Mr Gasket and we aren't sure we can get enough shifters to support production". Naturally, I was bummed. I started scheming plan "B", like ordering the M62/M64 "three on the tree" Saginaw trans, swapping in a Saginaw four speed on my own with a aftermarket shifter, etc. One day I was walking through the plant, near the motor line, and I saw these particular transmissions stacked up like cord wood. I called the material manager over and asked "...how many of these trans do you think you have?" "Prolly a hunnert" he replied. "Don't you think we should run 'em?" I said. He agreed, so I went and found my boss (who was responsible for such things) and he wrote a temporary deviation to build 100 trucks with this transmission....one of which happened to be mine. It's a sweet little trans. Uses ATF; still shifts like new, with a satisfying "click" when you go across the shifter gate. K

Must have and it now includes trucks. So I figured I'd contribute.

Thanks for all the info!
I just figured by the flat bar Hurst handle that it was an aftermarket part swapped in.

Daily chores are devided between my 72 and 69 T/A's. The 72 has air so it is used most during the summer. The 72 won autocross at Pontiac Heaven last year and I do the same with the 69. When was the last time you saw car seats in the back of a 69?

My Pontiac was regularly at the cruise-ins with two car seats installed. The two oldest outgrew them, but we do have a baby that will be cruising soon.

I use the lap belts in the 69. The 72 has a bench style back seat being made because of the hump. With the 72 one seat goes up front for now.

By far, my favorite picture is the last one!! It seems so common place these days that people loath even the idea of bringin a fun car out in even mildly inclement weather! Quote:
These seats all have provisions for either the three point tethering in newer cars, or to use a lap belt in the bottom to hold the base in place.

When my kids were 2 & 4 I had a 69 Firebird Convertible 350/4spd that I had just restored (painted & interior) and we would take our two kids out in car seats in the back. They loved it, good stuff!

I had a C-10 with the new process 4 speed. If I new how rare it was now I’d still have it.

My dog has cruised with me in my 70 RAIV Trans Am, 74 Super Duty Formula and my 74 Super Duty TA. I linked a video of her in the 74 TA... these cars were built to be driven. It's kinda sad so many are stored away as investments.

Some cool stories! Thanks for the compliments!! Colin, how did you mount the seats in the 2nd Gen? The belts don't seem to hold the seats stable. I once drove the 69 to a show in Prescott, Az.and is started snowing. People started turning around but I went through the snow all the way to the show.

This was my daily driver for 14 years, and I still have it! I had three car seats in it also.
