Under Hood Stuff
I stripped the hood of my 67 GTO and found that in several places there are gobs of “stuff” between the hood sheet metal and the formed steel support on the underside of the hood. I’m wondering if this was installed at the factory to dampen vibration or to help support the hood top skin. It has the look and consistency of thick seam sealer. Kind of like a piece of gum was stuck in there. Before I spray primer on it, I’d like to know why it’s there and what I should do with it. Does this sound familiar to anyone.

Its there to keep the 2 halves of the hood from rubbing on each other and causing a noise.

agreed, spot welds would do the same thing but would probably need more finishing at the factory.
